Problem # 1
the idle vacuum at 6" is ok but the power valve in the center carb has to be 4.5 or lower to stay closed . if it is open it will flood & die out .
Try restricting the idle bleeds with a thin piece of wire , there are the brass inserts pressed in just below the choke plate on the front wall . This alone can make a huge difference .

Nope. Now I'm going by sound.

Also the fuel level is right. When I take the screw out nothing comes out, give it a nudge and it spills. Fuel is at level with bottom of the hole.

Done according to this - Fuel Level & Float Adjustment

nice video, thanks for posting it.

No no no no.. have to start over.. Ran ok at idle yesterday, when warm. Today it doesn't even want to remotely run cold. Dies right away.

I saw the two thin holes in the brass below the choke lid. Will have to plug them with two needles.

Do they suck or blow?

Close both sides(idle mixture) and then go out 1.5 turns and start there.

After you set the float level, when you open the site plugs you can see the fuel level with the bottom of the plug hole?

As for the 6" of vacuum, seems a bit low unless you have a monster cam, might have a vacuum leak you need to find. Btw, vacuum always sucks.... heh

Air/fuel mix screw was a couple of turns open. I'll try to open it more. I've also ordered a new filter just to eliminate that.

Yepp. Fuel level aligned with bottom of threads.

I had bent the choke arm back by accident... Out of reach. Now it starts cold and runs.

I used the timing light on it, and the mark is somewhere between I'd say 35-40 at peak rpm... Markings only go to 10...
Any idea what this means ? Why is it that far away from 0....?

And another thing... I just learned where the power valve is...
When I got the center carb rebuild kit I changed that old power valve (6.5) with the new one(don't know what number) from the kit.
Didn't know what it was at the time but it looked important, so I changed it.

This kit...  37-1543  -  http://www.jegs.com/i/Holley/510/37-1543/10002/-1

When I installed it, I just tightened it in there. I turned it until it stopped.. Was there a some sort of adjustment meant for that one? Or were I supposed to just tighten it up?

This is fun. I'm gonna have to pick the entire carb apart again, aren't I...? Live and learn.
