Believe it or not, i think the cross section is different from 70-71 SS to body color ones of 72-74.
Just would be odd if they were the same. I just know the skewed logic of Chrysler's engineering and design back then would have made them different by design. I could be wrong..
I do know the tail panel trim is different between 70-71 SS years and the 72-74. Totally different section.
When I painted my 73 header panel, I used a silver metallic wheel paint (very small metalflake) and painted the leading edge of my header panel, and front hood trim.
I wetsanded it slightly, then cleared it. Shazam, it appears like the tail panel trim.
The header panel area that houses my grille and trim rings are also painted.
We call it K-Black(Kurdy black- don't ask me how it got that name, I have no idea).
It's the dark metallic finish featured on the 2010/11 Jeep Liberty flares and fascias.
I helped develop this color as a hybrid between argent, dark argent and black.
My tail panel will also be painted K black.

Hope this is helpful..
I seriously have to get the formula for K black up here.
