Cuda Dash rattle help
« on: May 29, 2012 - 07:59:13 PM »
Guys/Gals, I'm in need of some new ideas on trying to find a rattle that is driving me crazy. I've done searches here and around the internet but have not came up with anything.

Here is the problem. A rattle in what I believe is the dash, almost sounds like it is directly behind the Speedometer. I starts at 2700 Rpm and stays, doesn't get louder, just the same noise level.

Areas I have check:
Pedals: Brake pedal, Brake switch, Clutch Pedal and switch, Gas pedal and throttle linkage.
Dash: Took Gauges out completely apart and found no signs of anything loose, reattached everything. Lubed Speedo Cable (White lit grease both ends), and attempted to secure and loose wiring under the dash. Cleaned out defrost vent in the dash.
Engine: I secured cowl grill covers with screws (Mines a 74), Checked Check Valve for Brakes (suggested in a forum here), secured any loose lines, Added grommets to the firewall where speedo, cables and misc elec. come out. Put heat wrap around the brake lines running through the car. Wrapped exhaust in any areas in which the e-brake could come in contact with the exhaust tubing.

Extra info: I think the rattle started after I got it back from a shop who tuned the carb for me. Carb is an Edlebrock with an Electric choke, 340 engine, 4-speed (New clutch/flywheel just before the carb was tuned, do not believe it was related)

Last thing I could think of that it is just an old speedo cable.

Any help/ideas would be great cause I'm out of them.

Thanks in advance,

Mike
