black E body steering wheels
« on: May 29, 2012 - 10:44:24 PM »
Hello all,

I noticed in the options catalogs that they listed an E body steering wheel that was black instead of wood grain. Do those steering wheels actually exist? if so, are they hard to find?

Pretty sure they were pretty common. If you mean the round part you put your hands on being black. My 73 doesn't have a wood steering wheel...its black

My '73 steering wheel is black.  The wrap is there for comfort....the wheel is black.  I do not know how hard they are to come by.

I know the T/As / AARs had a black plastic version of the 3-spoke 70-71 steering wheel.

Looks just like the standard woodgrain except the grip is black plastic.

I have seen at least one on ebay. The grain looks like the centre console. Not woodgrain.

From that, yeah it does. Although I'm reasonably sure they came on the 70 T/As and AARs.

I've seen very nice condition original ones on ebay for not much $$$.

I agree but I've never heard of any other wheel coming from the factory on a T/A or AAR than the standard woodgrain. Anything else would have been dealer installed.

The black 3-spoke wheel with a pebblegrain texture was available on 71 E-bodies only.

I have a friend here in Fl that has an AAR survivor car.  It is purple with a rim blow wheel, black leather interior and overhead console.  It was ordered that way.

Well, then I stand corrected. That explains why the price was always pretty low for excellent examples of that wheel.
