E-body torsion bar manufactures?
« on: June 05, 2012 - 12:03:41 PM »
I had a previous post, but I want to ask a specific question in regards to torsion bars. I think I want these mostly for handling. I am thinking somewhere between 1.03-1.06  diameter. What brands are available or which company's sell  them and any experience with the installing, ride height, and harshness if any? Oh, I will be using Q A1 single adjustable shocks. Thanks everybody.

I have 1.00 inch; I'd have to look up where I got them. Firm Feel sells 1.00 for $325, and 1.06 for $345: http://firmfeel.com/torsionb_b.htm

I upgraded from stock small block non-rallye bars (0.86?), and I had no sway bars originally. The two changes made a huge difference in the car. I don't find it harsh at all, but I'm fairly tolerant of harsh rides, FWIW.

I installed a set of Just Suspension 1.00" bars on a 69 Road Runner last year and have had no complaints. And it's hard to beat the price, although the boot kit price seems a little high.

Firm Feel, Just Suspension, Hotchkis and PST all make bars in the 1" to 1.06" range. Firm Feel offers 1" and 1.06" bars, Just Suspension has 1" bars, and Hotchkis and PST both make 1.03" bars.

All should be pretty close in spring rate, it does vary with manufacturer for a given size. The 1.06" bars would be a bit stiffer.

I have 1.12" Firm Feel bars on my small block Challenger, although they ride stiffer than most would like I think. Hotchkis has had some issues with cars not being able to get enough ride height, the way they clocked their bars results in a VERY low ride height in the front unless they've changed it.

Just Suspension and PST sell their 1 and 1.03" bars for around $200, so over 100 bucks less then Firm Feel or Hotchkis.

Both Hotchkis and PST give a disclaimer about super low ride height. So if I wanted a 1.03 that is what I would have to deal with. Firm Feel does not make a 1.03 they make a 1.00 then a 1.06. 72bluNblu- How is your ride height with your 1.12 Firm Feel bars??? Also does anyone know what diameter torsion bars does XV motorsports have??? I believe they have a small and big block sizes. Does anyone know if the bars XV uses are their own or another manufacture repackaged???

I had the opposite problem with my 1.12" bars, I run 2" drop spindles to get to the ride height you see in my signature. Even at max adjustment it was too high without the drop spindles.

I heard once that XV uses 1.03 and 1.06 bars, but I'm not sure exactly what they have. Based on the performance level it would make sense that they'd be in that range. Given the operation they have, I doubt that they manufacture their own.
