I drive a BMW daily and have for years.   It now has 250,000 miles on the original drivetrain.  It has never been apart.  It constantly needs little things.  The best way to avoid little things as much as possible is preventive maintainence.  I put 150,000 on a 91 Jaguar and had less trouble with it.

I thought I had made another post on here but I guess I didn't.  I decided a few days ago that a 04-07 Volvo S60 R was just the ticket.  Sporty and quick with a manual (6-speed), but with AWD, tons of safety features, and a pretty nice bundle of luxury features as well.

I've settled on a 2005 S60 R in Michigan, and at least for now, have a finalized price and deal.  It's going into a dealership today for a quick visual inspection, and then I'll go up next weekend to pick it up.  Pics to follow after that!

Yeah - my in-laws will just be givin' me sh!t 'cause I used to b!tch about my wife's old '88 Volvo 240 DL (I think that's what it was) 'cause it kept breaking down (granted it was 16-or-so years old by then!)  So they're going to have a great time rubbing my nose in the fact that I bought a Volvo.  :)  At least it's a sporty one!

Nice rig, but aren't those kinda small inside?

I'm 6' 3" and to me, a four door is useless if I can't have the seat all the way back and passengers behind me are squished.

I sat in a C30 at the DC International Auto Show. I'm 6' and I could push the seat too far back for me to reach the pedals comfortably. I was very surprised.

Actually I didn't.  Surprisingly enough I got the seller to take it to a local Volvo dealership in Traverse City and have them inspect it on my dime - turns out the car was about 1/4 mile from completely falling apart.  Headlight (Sealed HID Unit) was bad, engine had no antifreeze in it - just rusty water, brakes were shot, tires were shot, lots of cosmetic damage inside & out, paint on fenders didn't match rest of car, hood was poorly repaired, bumped was cracked, horns and windshield washers were inop...  So yeah, I didn't buy it.

Always run a carfax or autocheck.

Sounds like the car was a salvage titled car.

Buyer beware these days.

Always run a carfax or autocheck.

Even Carfax can miss a lot. My 93 Escort was in a collision three weeks after I got it. Years later, when I was car shopping to replace the Escort, I got a month license for Carfax, and just for grins ran the Escort VIN. It can up perfectly clean.

Was the car totalled and you bought it back from the insurance company?  Does it have  a rebuilt/salvage title?

How much was each collision?  I don't think fender benders always show up, but major collisions should.

Holy crapoly!!    :22yikes:

Was the owner just a car flipper or what? If he knew how much was wrong with the car, he must of cringed having it gone over by a mechanic. Whatever the cost to have it gone over, it was money well spent by you.
