TTI Headers on 340 E-Body Info??
« on: June 11, 2012 - 09:48:41 AM »
I'm just going to install a set of ceramic TTI headers on my 71 Cuda 340 4-Speed......and yes before anyone tells me I know that TTI has a website with instructions.....but just wanting to know first hand from maybe someone who has actually installed them on a 340 E-Body what I need to take off to install them without any problems??
Does my mini starter need to come off drivers side??
Does my 90 degree adaptor and oil filter need to come off passengers side?
If you have pic's of them actually installed on a E-Body Cuda 340 and how they fit around engine I would be interested in seeing them.
Just want to take off the least amount of stuff I actually need to in order to install them.
Thanks
"Tim"

Both 90 degree and mini starter are OK, I had both on mine. The tti slide right in.  :bigshades:

Thats what I was wanting to hear! :cooldancing:
My last question is are you better to lift them into place from under the car or drop them in via the engine bay :clueless:
I have the car up on axle stands now.

I put my headers in over 3 years ago and I just can't remember if they went in from the top or bottom.  All I clearly remember was prepparing myself for a day of hell and the complete opposite happened.  They fell in.  I took a sawsall to the Hookers and the TTI's were installed in less than 1 hour.

Mine slid right in from underneath without loosening any mounts. A full size starter went back in easily. Stock oil filter position- no problem.

I have heard that "some" people have had an issue with the Z-bar hitting the pipes with the TTI.  This is mostly on cars that have been converted from autos to 4 speed.  Just thought i would let you know.

Just looking now and I really can't see where the drivers side hearer with fit right in with the steering linkage (Power steering car) ........mini starter...........and bottom steering bar going across the oil pan all left in place :clueless: :clueless:
Maybe I need glasses but can't see how it will drop in without taking someting off.............starter maybe??

I know for sure that my starter was NOT in when I put the driver's side on.  I used a mini starter from Mancini Racing and it went right in after the header was bolted up.

Took my mini starter off and still doesn't look like much room to drop them down via engine bay or up from underneath in particular the drivers side with the steering wheel bar running from firewall to my power steering stuff and also that torson bar and steering linkage below? I read about tilting the engine as well so that might give me more room.
For the members that had the headers just slip into place my hat is off to you guys/gals!!

Mine went in from the bottom with a 440. You MUST get the front end of the car way up in the air as it stated in my TTI instructions. :dunno:

I have it up on axle stands now. I think it's about 2 feet or so now from the floor to bottom of the car? I believe I still have a notch on the stands to go bit higher.

I just read the small block instructions and you will have to seperate the drag link. I also had the front wheels off the car and jack stands positioned roughly under the dash and as high as safely possible - almost to the point that I could almost tip the header collector flanges on the floor straight up and down. I have attached the instruction link just in case. Mine were originally a struggle until I reread the instructions and followed them step by step and more importantly got the car high enough. A hoist would be ultimate but......

Dumb question from a garage mechanic with a lot to learn??
In the TTI instructions # 6 it says for drivers side header to loosen ball joint on drag link at pitman arm and  left tie rod and remove bolt from idler arm and swing that aside??
Does anyone have a suspension pic to actually point out what bolt I am to remove and what needs to be swung aside?
Dumb question but I don't want to touch stuff I don't need to!!
Thanks
