Retro dealership ---me?
« on: June 17, 2012 - 07:26:57 AM »
Hey guys.

So I got my Carlisle stuff yesterday for the Barracuda and my truck.

Opened the fish envelope and found that I appear to be registered for the "Retro Dealership" ......there is the sticker and two fancy color wrist bands.   I got no wrist bands with the truck sticker.....no idea what the wristbands are for.

I did not register for the Retro Dealership, just the "stock" class.

Was this a mistake or do they randomly pick cars for the dealership?

I am not sure I want to have my car there.....first, I wont be able to set up my tent etc near my car, and second I will be out of the main body of e-body cars, and away from the CC tent, where I want to be.

Then on top of that, Google is flagging the carsatcarlisle site for having trojans so I cant access it to get info.

Any thoughts?

My car was chosen 2 years ago. They give you the option of bowing out and having your car among the other E-Bodies as usual. I can understand your concerns, but I was honored to be chosen. The wrist bands are to get you in and out of the fairground to the dealership. They have a tent setup there too.

I am not exactly sure how I was "chosen"....unless they somehow know my car from the last two times I have been at Carlisle, I kind a figure they just get all the year-specific cars entry slips together and pick a bunch of cars to fill the "lot".....or is there more to it than that?

I say congratulations!  Usually the cars are roped off inside the dealership, so you won't have to worry about people messing with it.  I mean of all the years we've been going, we've never heard of anyone having problems with their cars being there.

I mean it's your car and therefore your call, but I say revel in the compliment and show that sh!t off!  :)  The CC.C tent will always be there for ya!

Thanks Viperman.

I think my car will be outside the dealership....as a "used" model.....not inside...I mean, I love my car, but its no where near a 100% original "survivor" car that could be confused for a "new" car there.

Thats why I think that the selection is random and based on year only.

I dunno.

I do spend most of the first day or two walking around...so truth be told I dont spend much time at my own tent, or evn the CC tent.....but having a home base/tent to go back to with my two kids when they cranky is good to have.  The wife likes to have her own space too to be sweaty and relax in....LOL

Gonna try and find out a little more about it and see.

We are also taking our '12 Ram, so I guess we can set up our tent there, but the area they put trucks on is really hilly and out of the way.....The ebody area is so darn convenient.

Just talked to Ed, the events planner.

Basically, it was everyone in the 72 stock class that is picked for all bodies.

There is some area up there for personal popups but its gravel and hard to stake in.

He said we can do one day and then move to the showfield (room permitting) or all 3 days or two or none.....no big deal.

He said "If you had a 72 Challenger I would be begging you to stay - we have none of those yet...."

Can get re-classified when we roll in if we want.

Inside is already filled up, so I would be outside.

Could be cool to have a picture of my car in a "car lot"......but i dunno.

Will decide when we get closer I guess.

Just picked up my package at the P.O. box and I was also chosen for the dealership area.I am actually thinking of not taking the cuda at all this year as it needs work and I am short on money and time/place to work on it.I may actually see if I can just swap the registration to the truck so at least I can drive in and have a vehicle there inside. I do agree though it might be cool to have it in the "lot" so I may reconsider things and try to take it.  :dunno:

I hear ya,

I guess I'm so used to leaving the Viper behind and hanging out at the 'Cuda tent that it doesn't matter to me.  And they'll NEVER make that a "2000's" dealership...  :)

Regardless of what you choose, we'll be hoping to see you at the tent and around the grounds that weekend!

I love my car, and I'm always worried about where I park it vis-a-vis scartches and people messing with it. That said, I think I would do it if I had the opportunity.

it is kind of out of the way.

looks like i'm bringing the wrong car this year. should have registered the '72 Challenger.  :smokin:

i might be persuaded to bring both.......... :naughty:

It would be "neat" but really, if it isnt IN the dealership, its just sitting outside in a lot, just like at any car cruise....jsut outside the retro dealership.

Plus, I re-read the official "classifications" for cars.....Seems I should be registered as a modified, versus stock, anyways.  And the retro dealership calls for "stock" vehicles.

The rules allow for "a few minor changes" from 100% stock like wheels but it states that it must have original paint or be painted a color that was available that year on that model.

The paint on my car is not a color available that year on my car. Plus I have wheels.  Not to mention aftermarket exhaust and a few underhood changes, non-factory sway bar, etc.

SO , folks, I am a fraud.      LOL :icon16:

I am going to probably re-classify when I get to the grounds that day.

The picture of  MEK-Dangerfield's car kind of drives the point home for me.   Looks lonely.  LOL

Gravel lot, no one around, open windows......

At least on the show field the car has the benefit of being in the middle of other ebodies and ebody folks around .......seems like out on that lot anything could happen.....If it was inside I would think otherwise......not sure how closely the retro dealership folks watch the cars on the lot?

your right, inside would be really cool. but outside is like, "why do i have to pay when i never actually have my car inside the fairgrounds    "

basically i restored my '72 as if you drove it off the showroom floor. so last night i sent Carlisle an email. if they didn't find any stock '72 challengers
for the display, i have someone that can bring it out for me. but i'm gonna be a snob now, only if it's inside the dealership. cause it's basically gonna
sit there all weekend. i don't want to take it and bring it back every day. let's see if they call me.
