Dukes of Hazzard - love `em or hate `em?
« on: June 18, 2012 - 09:20:59 PM »
Wearing my Dukes of Hazzard t-shirt the other day and got to thinking of the show. For me it`s a love/hate thing as there is nothing better than watching a great `69 Charger blast around jumping stuff and eluding the cops but it pains me to watch the horribly corny acting and story lines. What do you guys think?

Somewhere in between. I love the driving, and of course the Charger (although I could do without the paint job). The corniness can get in the way, but even though I have a wicked dark sense of humor and tend to think the worst of the human race, I tend to enjoy the simple, unassuming and ultimately positive nature of the show.

And, since I spent a lot of my mis-spent youth out-running cops, I have to love that part

I have fond memories of the show. You have to cut it some slack in the "acting area" and remember the times it was made in?

Oh... and don't even try to imagine what Daisy looks like now!  :smilielol:

Love the Charger!

The acting was corny then and it is corny now.   That is why it still works.   It was never meant to be a serious show.

Try watching one of those old shows that was meant to be serious.   Knight Rider, Airwolf, Six Million Dollar Man.   Unwatchable!

Dukes are still fun for me to watch.

Love it! Yeah it was corny, but just think.....that show had good lookin women, a great car, and was family appropriate.  You can't find a show on tv today the whole family can watch! yet it was still awesome! Plus, the PC crowd on television today would NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS allow a confederate flag to be shown.  Not only did the General Lee have one on the roof, but heck the cop cars had confederate flag license plates up front!  :rebel:  All awesome...EXCEPT for the shows where Bo and Luke weren't in them and their cousins were the main characters  :puke: The ones with Enos were the best as well.

I saw a pic a while ago of the girl who played Daisy Duke, she's an aircraft carrier. Those

Love it!  Grew up in Louisiana so I feel the southern pride!  Corny as it may be.

Totally cool show!   :rebel: :rebel:

Was a kid when it was on,  Friday nights was pizza, Pukes of Gizzard and Chips.  Loved all the car action and being a prepubescent all we cared about was the car stuff and Daisys hooters of course ;p

Couldn't pick an option, because my biggest complaint was how many Chargers they destroyed over the years.  The availability of good used Chargers all but dried up around here as I'm not too far from where this was filmed.  That and everyone who sees my orange 70 Roadrunner wants to know if its one of those 'Dukes of Hazard' cars .... No.   Daisy was nice to look at, so there I said something nice about it.

Wow,kinda surprised with so much positive response as I know some who cringe whenever the show is mentioned.I agree ruining all those Chargers was another negative.I wonder how many nice muslcecars have been destroyed by hollywood over the years?  :swear:

Truth be told, they destroyed many 68-70 Chargers filming that show. They would just change out a tail panel or grill to make a shot work. I guess in the mid 80's it was easier to find 68-70 Chargers.   :pullinghair:

I have to laugh a little evey time I think about the movie Vanishing Point.  At the end of the movie, they crash the 1970 white challenger, but if you look close, what they really crashed was a white camaro...LOL

I guess the reason it doesn't bother me that much is that most of the cars Hollywood destroys come from salvage yards. They get patched up, reinforced, and made into 20 footers for the shoot, and then they go back to salvage. Most of these cars could have been bought by someone before they were sent to the wreckers, and most of them couldn't find buyers.
