1970 Barracuda Convertible (value)??

This thing is a hot mess -- the seats, engine, tranny, rear end, grill are gone..missing (1) fender & (1) door. Has rotted rear frame rails, floors are spongy, quarters have rust. Wheel housings ok, rockers solid, firewall ok. It was hit up front & needs 1 inner fender, radiator support & maybe a front frame rail straightening.

But but it's a real 'Cuda 383 (BS) convertible, auto. Blue on blue, white top. Hockey stick stripe delete, A/C car...the convertible top frame, chrome trim & rear seat panels are still there, windshield, top receivers, latches all there. Vin tag, fender tag & vin stampings on radiator support/cowl. It CAN be saved...but before I start - what do you think it's worth in it's current state? It's a dragger not a roller

It's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Personally, I'd say 4,500 to $5,000 not seeing the car

I own a convertible and I assure you alot of the parts needed to get it back to 100% will be costly.  Mainly because a lot of the parts are specific to the model and year made.  The common parts like the drive train are easily found for a reasonable price.  It is all the small trim, interior and special body parts for a convertible has that will set you back.  Most parts for my car cost me $500 today.  A cheap part is anything around $250.  I agree with the statement to get it as cheap as possible.  In all likelihood your going to have to replace $5k to $10K in body pieces.  Another $2K for interior pieces.  You can go to an auction these days and get a very, very nice car for $25k -$35K.   This convertible will cost you $40k minimum if you restore it back to its former glory. 

The days of spending $20k for a rusted out shell of a convertible are behind us and won't return in the near future.  What your describing is basically scrap metal to 90% of the world.  Your ability to make something out of that mess shouldn't make the car more valuable than its scrap metal value.  Probably $300 with title.  Otherwise you have to cut it up into smaller pieces. I'd say four times scrap metal value $1,200 is more than fair.  Of course the general rule is a car is worth what you want to pay for it. 

I bought my convertible for $3K in 1994 and the person drove it from Idaho to Seattle WA.  I paid in cash.  I had to replace the both quarters, trunk and other rusted pieces.  Everything about the car was tired and run down. Yes these are collectible cars but the reality is can you drive it?  If you tow it to your house that will cost you a minimum of $250.   So if he is helping you move the shell I'm thinking $1,200 otherwise less the moving costs to your house.  You can buy a drivable car for $2K to $3k.  Unless this car has a Dana rear end as part of the sell I believe $1K for it is sensible.  Show him the money and then be prepared to walk.  When people see money their price expectations drop and they think about having the cash in hand.  I wish you luck on this deal and admire the challenge your taking up.

I know the car you're talking about. Did you buy end up buying it or are you looking at?

Anyway, I "think" I got a good deal & really wanted of these cars for a very long time. My thought was I can fix it (many hours or years & $) or if it becomes TOO much - sell it without taking a loss.

Chris -  I actually tried contacting you as I know you've bought/sold a few e body ragtops in previous years to get your feel on this one...PM'd you to discuss.

It sounds like a basket case.Basically your going to rebody a whole car.Is it still worth as much?I wuold not think so.I know somebody that has a rebodyT/A I would consider the value at least 20 to 30% less than a mostly original.I would not pay more than 7 to 8 max.Is it a shaker hood car?
