That is stupid beyond belief.   :banghead:

It looks like that was an actual 'vert at one time.  Sad.  Should have just taken a hardtop and cut the top off.  I mean, it's not like this guy goes four-wheelin' in that thing (hello, no roll bar???).

The time, money, and effort into building that thing is what's amazing.

Oh well.

everyone sit down, I agree with you RTC!
What a look on the guys face...   I think he's trying to make up for some 'deficit' in his life....
Yes, its his car. But old Mopars should be respected and re-born with taste and class, of course that's MHO.

Not for me, but I am in the camp that says its their car and if a 4WD conversion is what makes them happy, then that's their business.  But the owner shouldn't get upset if a few of us laugh when we see it - this is clearly a case of "one-of-none" being taken to an extreme.

Yeah exactly. Its his car, he can do whatever he likes to it. Would I do that to a '71 Challenger 'vert? Not a chance.  On the other hand, I'm sick of seeing over-restored, numbers this, options that, "I want a zillion dollars at Barret Jackson" cars too.

They're cars. They're meant to be driven. If dude wants to drive a 4x4 '71 Challenger vert, super. I'd rather see that out on the road than have some super nice numbers everything '71 vert sit in a garage 362 days out of the year and go to three car shows. B-o-r-i-n-g.

Sorry, rant over. Tired of catching crap for my peeling clearcoat and rust bubbles from guys that drive their cars less than a thousand miles a year on sunny weekend days only.

I agree, and this is part of a line of reasoning that becomes more and more prevalent as people whose primary concern is the dollar value of a car get into the hobby. That line of reasoning goes like this:

1 - The worth of a car is only its dollar value
2 - A car has worth only if the dollar value for which it can be sold exceeds the dollar value for which it can be acquired and, if necessary, restored
3 - If a car has worth, then the owner must a) painstakingly restore it to showroom condition, b) build a palace around it to protect it from the elements, and c) occasionally load it onto an enclosed trailer for transportation to a show

My opinion, that line of reasoning represents one, and only one, reason to want and/or own a car, out of dozens.

The only thing he needs to do to bring it back completely to stock it to convert it back to right hand drive. They made about 50 of those in Oz back in the day.

every single one?

Hey, everyone's entitled to an opinion right? Here's mine - if you're going to restore a Mopar 1) restore it as close to what (you can afford) and the Mopar Gods intended, *OR* 2) make it better while staying true to its roots.  I'm sure the person who paid 550K for 'the last hemi cuda' has the car in a velvet box located in a temperature and humidity controlled room. I'd drive it like it was stolen but that's just me. And I thought that cuda Michelle posted that was restored in OZ was awesome, with the MB seats and NAV.  I think they should all be driven, and driven hard too. But if someone wants to keep it in a box and trailer it to a show every now then, well, its their car and they can do what they want with it. Personally I think they're missing the total experience but if they can't turn their own wrenches I can understand the 'show dog' approach to classic ownership. Its all good. When the time comes when I finally get my 'cuda I'll probably have a stroke if a bird craps on it... but I'll drive it!  :2thumbs:

Threw up in my mouth a little bit.

That's one of those cars you can't stop shaking your head at. Like some have said "at least its not a boring numbers resto" but I'm sure glad its not in my garage.
