Hello everyone! I am Jeff from Virginia and I have a 1971 Challenger HT. The car has been in the family since 1974. We have had a Chrysler dealership in the family since 1934 (Chrysler/Plymouth associate dealer back then) and the car was given to my father to take to college when it was traded back in, we sold it new in 1971. I am the 4th generation at the dealership and we now have a full line Chrysler, Dodge, Ram, and Jeep. We got Dodge in 1967 and Jeep in 2009.
I work in sales but I am also a level 4 Chrysler tech and I do a little bit of everything around here. These older cars (even though they should be simpler!) give me some trouble time to time and I love to come to the net to talk and get info. I am searching for a forum as good as the ones I had back when I was heavy into FWD turbo Mopars and I have yet to find a good one
A brief history of the car: It was originally Dark Bronze Metallic in color, 318 with the 904 trans and 2.76 gears. Basic economy V8 hard top. The interior was premium white with the console and it sported 14in rallye wheels, chrome wheel lips, full length chrome belt line moldings, and the chrome luggage rack. In 1975 my father painted the car a generic dark green metallic color and put a white and chrome beltline molding on in place of the larger chrome OEM molding. Terrible 70's stuff. Around 1999 a restoration project was started and the car was painted mostly yellow before better judgement got it changed to 2010 Plum Crazy pearl. The car was put back on the road in early 2011 and I am working out the details and moving in the direction of a GT car as is the modern way.
Specs as it sits now!
Engine - Original 318 V8 block and heads. Block is .030 over with sealed power pistons and rings. Heads have a very mild port. Cam is stock (ehhh I know, right?). Mechanical fan has been deleted, mopar underdrive pulley kit installed. 2.5in full exhaust with X-pipe from pypes performance and vintage Mr.Gasket tube headers.
Driveline - Trans is original stock 904. Rear is a 742 case 8 3/4 with 3.23 gear sure-grip from 1969 Charger.
Suspension - Hemi front T-bars, poly bushings everywhere, Hellwig motorsports swaybars front and rear, stock rear, OEM style shocks, 17X7in aluminum wheels with BFG G-force tires.
Brakes - Manual drum-drum converted to front disc from 1976 Aspen wagon. Small disc still manual and drum rear.
Body - 2010 Plum Crazy pearl paint, original 1970 Rallye hood, front and rear panels grey...no R/T clone intended.
So...after all that I imagine some pics would be good. Took them this morning so it would be fresh. Been in storage for a month and I haven't washed it yet so be easy on me.
Thanks so much for looking!
