    Vacuum Booster Question..

    The car I'm  working on had the original vacuum booster. Other than surface rust it looks ok, but is there a way to test it to see  if it works before I paint it? Forty years of brake fluid had caused a little rust...

    Should it be okay?  I want to paint  it!!!!!!!

    connect a hose to it & suck on it to see if it holds vacuum

    The key word is HOLD.  Might want to change the check valve.  Sometimes that grommet leaks.

    What year of car are you working on?  1970 boosters were painted gloss black as an assembly.(booster and master cylinder assembled and then painted)  71+ that had the Midland Ross boosters were zinc dichromate plated.(yellowish gold plating)

    You can have the booster rebuild.  I sent mine to Booster Dewey.  He replated it the correct finish as well.
