A sad ending for a 68 340 cuda
« on: June 24, 2012 - 10:49:02 PM »
About a month and change ago, I posted a for sale ad for a 68 340 cuda, auto, buckets and console, ps, pb, and air. The car sat on a vacant lot that was for sale. The car was not alone, as a car carrier, cube vans, camaros, and other stuff sat there as well.  I figured, and rightly so, that once the lot sold, all the stuff there had to go too. Well it did, but not as one would think. I went back the next friday, the lot was sold, but the car was still there, so I left my name and number on a piece of paper on the dash and took some pictures. I went by the following friday, only to discover that the lot had been cleared out, everything was gone. I figured that everything had to go somewhere, so I visited the two local scrap yards, neither one had a clue as to where the car had gone. I asked around, no one knew. Finally, this past friday, I drove by, and the guy across the street was having a garage sale, so I asked him. He said everything went to a metal recycling center, as in crushed the next business day, but not by the rightful owner. It seems that the guy who owned the lot was trying to help out a friend and let him use the shop that was on the property, and loaned him some money as well. I guess that it wasn't enough money, so said friend took it upon himself to sell everything on the property for scrap, without the consent of its actual owner. So a really neat car got crushed. Yes, it was partially stripped, no hood, nothing in the engine compartment, but the frame and floorpans were undercoated and looked solid, with no holes in the body. Life sucks, doesn't it?
