who has the best replacement fuel tank?
« on: June 25, 2012 - 11:29:29 PM »
Any suggestions? I just took mine out and it's rusty inside, might as well replace it when it's out? It's a CA car and has the ecs  set up?
What brands to you recomend?

I used spectra good tank no problems fit right in. I don`t know if they have any with Cali ecs though.
Save your original sending unit lock ring they are a bit thicker than the one that comes with the replacement tank. Some have had leaking issues with the replacement ring.

If your looking for something different  I've seen an add in MCG for stainless tanks that can be set up for efi.

When I had to replace mine it looks like a lot of companies use Spectra tanks, I think they are in Canada.  I noticed a lot of vendors had the same part number for my car.

With a Rock Auto discount, several years ago I paid something in the neighborhood of $155.  Fit in fine.

There was some debate as to leaving it natural finish or painting it black as some say the black tank causes the gas to heat up.  I painted mine so it isn't as noticeable.  :2cents:

Thanks guys! Spectra seems to be the way to go but I'm having trouble finding one with ECS?  I notice the 71-74 have ecs pipes so it says in the listings? My question is the later year challenger gas tank the same as the 70?  is the esc pipes in the same spot as a 70? :dunno:

The other way to go is to get rid of the esc stuff and get all the parts to make it a non-ecs car? But what parts do I need to do this other than the tank??

I know they are different tanks but I just got a spectra for my '72 'Cuda off an e-Bay vendor and it looks great... it has the (4) pipes, so just try a later model car.

MOPAR or NO car!

'72 'Cuda 340, white on white
'72 Sebring; bracket project
'64 Imperial Crown black on black
'66 Imperial Crown; parts car
