1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

I'm sorry - I probably shouldn't have laughed as soon as that happened, but I laughed not because of the car but because of the driver.  First of all, even in my newbness state of competitive driving, I know that street tires do not benefit from a "warm-up burnout."  Secondly, DUE to my newbness state of competitive driving, I doubt I will EVER take my Viper to a drag-strip because I KNOW that I'd be prone to doing the same #&@% thing...  :)

But it DOES kinda have an "America's Funniest Home Videos" format to it, doesn't it?!  Just that, "awesome" to "oooooohhh" in less than 2 seconds, like a guy taking a baseball to the nards...

I think there was a similar Ferrari incident.Drivers just floor it,spinning the tires at redline and don`t have enough sense to let off.

It's a good reminder to all the weekend warriors, no matter what brand or type of car you drive, that accidents and f-ups do happen.

He's going to have to tell the insurance company a good story if he goes through insurance.

I'm sure he isn't going to tell them it happened when he was warming up his tires at the drag strip.  :faint:

Besides being there and from you experienced racers, what did the driver do or not do that caused the accident? It seemed so sudden I cannot see what went wrong.

When your tires are spinning that fast it`s like your on ice and the rear will kick around fast. You need to let off the gas instead of keeping your foot planted to the floor and redlining the engine-simple as that.
