LOL - I found that SRT10 rollover video a few months ago. That was the most hilarious thing I've ever seen.
"Oh man - did a tire blow?!" No - you're just an idiot.
There was a comment on the one page where I found the video - guy said something about how he was impressed with Dodge's "idiot ejection system".
Anyways, a LOT of people get cars like these and don't know how to drive them. They aren't aware of the power they possess and the challenges of controlling that power.
The other day I took an old friend out for a ride in my Viper. I haven't seen her in many years, so she's never seen it. I took a real tight S-turn on a backroad and when I spun the wheel for the second half of the corner, I intentionally prodded the throttle a bit. It was just enough to kick the rear tires loose, and I knew
instinctively to back off the throttle immediately to keep it from completely losing control. She gripped, I gave just enough countersteer, and we blasted down the last little straightaway until I backed off at the next (poorly lit) corner.
I've waited for FOUR YEARS to start driving that car like that. I've gotten to know how she reacts, how she handles, and how she can kill me in a moments notice. Also, I know my tires are brand new, properly maintained, and that the car is mechanically sound.
And I'd probably STILL never take it to a drag strip...
When I was at WyoTech in 2004, some students were telling me about a Viper that was at the local drag strip one evening. Lights went green, he launched, hit the throttle too hard when he shifted to second, the car INSTANTLY loss control and he t-boned the concrete barrier wall. Bye bye Viper. It was black, too.
