Sorry took offense to that remark.  Cuda Barracuda is always the best.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

I am a recent convert.  I've been mainly a Corvette owner.  I've had 3, I don't know if I would get another.  The aggressive look and those curvy lines are what drew me to the Chally.  Its also rare.  Not many folks know what it is right off the bat.  It seems everybody has a Camaro or Mustang (hell, my Mom had a 65 Mustang.)  I've always been attracted to the lesser known cars that don't get the recognition of the popular cars.  My other car is a Firebird Formula, a great driving platform, though not as well known as its Trans Am cousin.  My Chally has been called everything from a Charger to a Camaro, but always gets a thumbs up and a smile.

My father was always into Mopars.  When I was a kid he belonged to a now defunct Mopar club in NJ.  When I went to my first car show one of the members had this 70 Cuda, it was Canary yellow with a flat black hood which was beautifully cut to allow for the built 440 with an 8-71 to pop out of the hood.  I instantly fell in love with the E-body.  My very first car ever was a 73 Challenger because I couldn't find a Barracuda that I liked (I was searching for a convertible which I finally found).  I found the Chally a state away and the guy was so hard up to get rid of it he flatbedded it to my house for free just to get rid of it.  I drove that thing throughout High School.  It was such an eyesore, all white with a primer black driver door with a 318 and 904.  When I sold it the guy was so glad to buy it, he took a license plate off his car, put it on the rear of the Chally, his friend drove home his car with the plate on the front with the Chally following close behind with the plate on the rear.

I just sold my 69 Charger last week to finance a new Mopar, it will be an E-body  8)
Reading about e-bodies changed my mind. (I guess MoparActionMagazine is to blame :ylsuper: futuring lots of 'Cudas and Challies)
They should be handling better, are rare, look mean, etc
And it will fit better in my little garage.
So we'll see soon if it's the right car ;)

Interesting question.  I would have to say it's their mean, agressive look.  I can't wait to get my hands on a 71 cuda...that's the ultimate for me.  Nothing looks tougher!

 :iagree:

I first fell in love with the looks of these cars when I was 14...I saw Phantasm and was hooked ever since.....got a 73 now, but I am searching for the elusive 71 that fits my needs... :naughty:

for me it started as it did with many of us through my dad and his love for mopars. I have had quite the collection over time wish I had some of them back. :walkaway:

I always liked the 70 cuda the best I think its the name and the running lights up frount in the grill. that is a killer look.

I found my first challenger it was a drop top (havent been without one in some form) in 1984 by taking a wrong turn in denver picking up some windows for work.

I have had 16 differant challengers over the years but your first is always your most fond memory... IMO

funny I still dont have that 70 cuda maybe my son will want one... :cooldancing:

So many things....I had a 74 RoadRunner that was my first car that I bought when I was 15. I scrapped the 318 and put in a 440 and drove it like a madman. Got beat by a 71 Demon small block and knew I needed a smaller car. Bought a 71 and 73 Challenger package, sold he 73 for the same money I bought both for, and fixed up the 71 with a 440 and Plum crazy. Lost my license for 2nd DUI in 92, and decided to sell all my rides to get my perfect car.... Sold 74 Road runner 71 Challenger and 74 PowerWagon to buy my 70 R/T Challenger Convertible 440 4 speed. Was in storage for the last 13 years, was starting to restore a pretty much good ride, when my friends shop burned to the ground with my car in it. Now I have a little less rare 70 R/T convertible 383 auto numbers matching Challenger. The aggressive stance and high impact color coupled with the Mopar big block is almost impossible to pass up. Add the rareness factor and you have a great looking head turning perfect investment.

Back in the mid 70's my first car in high school was 70 SuperBird, 4406 bbl, 4 speed. I had it 2 weeks had to sell it due to the outrageously high insurance that I couldnt possibly afford back then on a burger bouncers pay@2.25hr. I raced it on the street agin a 396 SS Chevy. I beat him on the top end, pretty good I might add. I was hooked! But had to sell it. I vowed someday I would own a 6 PAK car again! I lucked out bigtime in 1997 and havent looked back since! With a SixPack, Pistol Grip, Dana it's all I could ever ask for and then some. I am very grateful.

I think that the one thing that influenced me the most on E bodies was the first Phantasm movie with the Cuda....Gotta love that car....then also as a young, youngin....I went to the drive in with my parents and vaguely remember seeing Vanishing Point....I think that I was too young to have it influence me though....but not the case with Phantasm....SCHWEET Cuda!

Im actually still in high school. My dad bought each of my sisters their own cars for high school graduation presents and my dad asked me what I wanted for my car.... everyone my age has a jap pos and cars today just don't look that good so I told my dad I wanted an old american muscle car. I really wanted a 1968 Dodge Charger R/T in black with a black vinyl top just like in Bullitt. My dad and I went searching all over the place for a decent charger project car but there were none to be found for a good price. So I started looking at challengers and just fell in love with that mean looking stance and those sculpted lines. I thought that if I couldn't find the charger I wanted then I would get its evil cousin. I finally found my challenger project car and drove all the way to SC to get her and now she is in the process of a ground up restoration. Its one hell of a graduation present.

It seems that Phantasm Movie has influenced many of us including myself. The car had been out a few years before the Phantasm movie (movie came out in 79) and I don't remember ever seeing one until that movie. When I saw the car I was like WHAT is that...that car is awesome looking.  I tried finding one in the early 80's and never could find one that I could afford or didn't need a ton of work (always rusted). I did find a 73 hump hood charger that had a 340 and was black on black. My Dad rebuilt the engine and I remember my brothers and I helping install the the engine and transmission. I loved the Charger but always had wanted a Cuda but gave up on it when I had other priorities like the rest of us. I saw my car for sale 2 years ago and it was Black on Black and I had phantasm flash back. The price was right and I couldn't resist. Now when I go to local cruise ins I see Cuda's on ocassion but Mopars are definately in the minority especially e-bodies.

I think my craze started at birth. Came home from the hospital in a 70 Hemi 4 speed Superbird (Lime Green) dads buddys car. I would not go to sleep at night, so mom would drive me around in a Plum Crazy AAR. Had a 71 Charger R/T also, but she said I would'nt go to sleep in that car; had to be the Cuda.
I remember the car from growing up, and it never ran much. Mainly because my dad is one of those jerry rigging mechanics, so there was always something wrong with it. The car is still in the family, as my cousin owns it. He restored it, 6pack set up is the only thing missing to be complete numbers matching. I get to drive the car from time to time, and I love it. Recently I bought a 72 Challenger it's a rallye 318 car, guy before me put 360/904. I sold the 71 R/T in order to buy the Challenger, as the R/T was beyond my repair capabilities. Best choice I have ever made. Will have pictures here soon.

My love affair began with my Uncle's 1972 Barracuda. He bought it new and was the same year I was born! My first memory ever of anything to do with a car is sitting in my Uncle's lap pretending to steer the car on a drive to the 7-eleven when I was 3 years old. From that point on I was hooked on cars!!! For the next several years I would spend every family get togethers hanging around the Cuda. I spent countless hours sitting behind the wheel staring at the ralley gauges dreaming of the day I was finally old enough to drive. I had pictures of it on my nightstand! I practically worship this car. When I was thirteen I spent the weekend at my Uncles and he gave me the keys to the car and told me I could drive it around his neighborhood (by myself I might add) as long as I didnt tell my parents. That event marked the first time I ever drove a car let along all by myself!! I almost got the car stuck turning around in someones driveway and backed into a ditch. Luckly I was able to get the Barracuda back on the road in fear of my Uncle killing me. :o I fully expected that the Cuda would be mine one day but when I was 15 my Uncle approached my dad about buying the car dirt cheap knowing I wanted it and my dad turned him down. I still hold that resentment about that to this day. :swear: I searched for years for that very car with no success and went through a few Chevys and dozens of Fords including several Fox bodies and a couple of Lightnings before I decided that I needed to get a 72 Cuda before it was too late and I couldnt afford one. Best decision of my life and baring any sickness or finacial downfall I plan on having my Cuda till I die!!! :clapping: :woohoo:
1972 BS23 H code Cuda, B5 blue, 340 streched to 416 cu in, 727 w/ 8 3/4 rear, 7.23 in the 1/8 mile and 11.38@117mph in the 1/4 on drag radials   Under restoration! Coming soon... 440cuin R3 Indy SMALL BLOCK monster!!!!
