For me it was a movie ( VANISHING POINT ) looking at that Challenger blasting through everything including the Jaguar was just too much!!! AWESOME!!
Then while on a trip to Puerto Rico I saw my first AAR Cuda; it was wrecked and pretty much stripped but that car was still wicked looking, even while it was on blocks.

For me it started over 30 years ago.
As a senior in hs back in 1969 (the summer of love, lol) my dad bought me a brand new firebird.
In 1971 I traded it in for a brand new challenger- blue with a white top, white int, and a power sunroof.
I traded it in for a new 77 cordoba which I kept till 81.
For the last 10 years I've been dying to buy another chally and last year I did.
And 6 months before that I bought a 77 doba.
Just reliving my childhood.

The sexy body lines have always done it for me.

When they first came out and I was a teenager, a guy would pass on the street in front of my house about 40 times a day (Gas was cheap).  His 71 440 six pack crusin in 2nd gear made the sweetest sound which I can still remember to this day. :worship:

For me the dementia started at the ripe old age of 3.  That was how old I was when my Dad went to the factory in Detroit one day and came home with an Ice Blue 70 Challenger SE.  I fell in love with that car and used to sit in it "driving" whenever I got a chance.  My parents told me I cried the day they got rid of 7 years later.

Then, growing up my neighbors were big Chevy guys - they had 6 or so 69-72 SS Chevelles.  One day another buddy of mine, whose father was a used car dealer and was always getting a diiferent car, came by and asked me what I thought of Challengers ;D  Seems someone had traded in a '71 and his dad wanted to know if he wanted it.  Needless to say, after some prodding from me, he told his dad he'd take it.  He drove it for a few weeks and then his dad came across a Gold 71 Olds Cutlass w/ a 350 Rocket.  He'd always loved those cars, so he came by and asked me if I wanted the Challenger.  The rest as they say is history.  I bought the car from him for $600  and proceeded to do the usual High School things to it.  I yanked the heads off the 318 and put on a set of used 340 heads and a used cam.  Put on Blackjack headers and Cherry bombs.  And beat the CRAP OUT OF IT!

I sold it a couple fo years later to buy my first converitble Challenger which also become my third convertible Challenger some years later but that's a whole 'nother story

I knew a guy back in Grade School who had a 70 Cuda (he was in high school). This car was black, suped up and Hot!!! Ever since then I wanted one. I also love the coke bottle looking Ponies. And Mopar is just the toughest out on the late 60's to 70's in my opinion. 8)

I have always been a Pontiac, Chevy dude...I still own a 1978 400cid, 4spd Trans am, and a 02 Z06 Corvette. I owned about 8 T/A's and about 4 Vettes, but I have always wanted a 70 Cuda. They just make peoples jaws drop...and the best thing about it is you never see these cars on the road, so you get to watch people

Back in 1980 I had a 78 Trans am with a 400 and headers, the car would run high 14's in the quarter which in those days I thought was fast. One night I was driving home from a night of cruising with a friend on I-95 doing about 65mph, 10 mph over the speed limit of 55mph with my tissue box size Fuss Buster plugged in looking for radar.
I look over to my right and a bright orange car with a black top pulls along side sounding real sweet.
I ask my friend what car is that...he says it looks like a Cuda or a Challanger. I could see the words 440 six-pack!
I stomped on the gas, and with in a second I heard a roar and a jacked up orange bleer go by.
I said to my friend, one day I got to get one of those! 25 years later I bought one.

I'm 26. I've loved cars since I was very young and I seemed to always fall in love with the more exotic / unique designs. Anyways, I've always been hypnotized by muscle cars no matter what they where. I was never really educated about the models and years though. When I was a teen, I would buy Local old car traders and peruse through the black and white pics. The odd time I'd circle a car and I couldn't believe a car could look that good and be purchased for the asking price. This happened a few times throughout the years and I learned that I loved challengers. It's low roof, fat back end, and long front looked bad-ass. The forward wheel whels look aggressive when ralleys where tucked up inside. THEN I SAW ONE ON THE ROAD. I was hooked. I looked for a year for a car that I could afford - $3,500 bucks. Man it was real rough, but it ran and had a 4 speed. I was scared to drive it but I needed that body just to look at. I use to stare at her for hours from all diff angles - doing nothing. My friends and family thought I was crazy, and I would end up selling it in a few months. I sold my very reliable low KM car to buy her. I now relied on Public transit. I traveled by train every weekend from toronto to my home town (140km) to work on her. I learned everything from chat rooms and challenger forums. I stripped it to metal, gutted her, rebuilt the suspension, polished everything, sourced all new parts, met a freind to aid in the engine rebuild. I did everything. I didn't go on a date, read a novel, or go clubbing for two years. I remember  sanding layers of paint of of door weather stripping cause I was broke, but wanted my car perfect. I Learned body work form books and professionals around town.  The story goes on and on and on...

ALL for a Car. Something about those damb challengers. It becomes an obsession and grabs a hold of you. I finished my car about a month ago. 70 Challenger RT bumble bee strip. Hemi Orange, black out hood, black interior. The 340 is built to 400+, 4 speed pistol. 8.75, 3:23. I love my car.

It's funny cause untill people saw it finished, they didn't understand what all the fuss was about. Now, everytime I go out I have offers to buy her. She's unique, desireable, and rare. I'll never sell my girl.

Sorry for rambling, but I'm sure many will understand the sacrifices we must make to obtain a dream. This was mine and I made it happen - I'm very happy! I love that we all share the passion for these cars, as I think it is unique specifically to individual cars. Almost like past relationships, and existing friendships. Each one touches your heart differently.

I'd love to get another challenger and save her, but their just so damb expensive now. If one of my friends were to share that passion and buy one - I'd work day and night to help restore her - for fun.

Sorry for carrying on. I miss my snorty little girl!

This pic says it all

I mean who couldn't fall in love with a car that looks like that. My dad had this when i was 2 until i was 12. I know the power of these vehicles and they look great doing it. In my opinion there will NEVER be a car as great as a 1970 Challenger, let alone a car as good as a e-body. A e-body is a perfect combintion of great power and looks its the ultimate car. My dad had a white and black challenger at the sametime when i was little. It has always been by dream to buy a challenger cause i grew up with them they are awesome cars. Great strory brant I have the same passion for that car. I have considered many times to sell my dodge dakota (my only car) to buy one (even if the challenger isnt driveable) but somehow people keep talking me out of it. One day I hope to own a 1970 challenger, hopefully.
