Hey only so many cars came with Shaker style hoods....that is a big draw for many...

I spent many nights behind the shaker of a 79 Pont TA.  If I could get my hands on that car I would take it home.
I was behind the shaker of a 78 Trans am for 5 years, I bought the car in 1980 for $4200. It was an awesome car. I bought another 78 4spd Trans am in 1990 and still own it.

I choose an e-body because my mom used to own a challenger back in the day, just looking at the car though, it has unbelievably beautiful body lines.  Another reason they appealed to me is the fact that for the day Chrysler was always half a step ahead of Ford or GM in Technology.  Two words...Torsion...bars... :thumbsup:

I don't think there is a reason that can be put into words. Some people like tomatoes, others don't. Why do some like Chevies, and others Fords? Overall, I think it is part personal taste, part influence of parents, family, friends, etc, part past experience, part nostalgia. It's like trying to figure out why you like red instead of green, or blonds instead of brunettes (BTW, I'm not putting down green, or brunettes). Something just stirs different things in your mind, and flips a switch every time you see it.

The cars were and still are the only ones that I really Love.  The 1970 Barracuda is the best looking car ever and then comes the 1970 Challenger.  No other car compairs to the design or handling of these cars.  I prefer the Barracuda over the Challenger because I like the feel of the Barracuda better.  I have had about equal amounts of each car with that total being 10 or more,  I have been trying to remember all of them that i have owned.  Maybe some day I can put down on paper all of them so I can remember it for a long time then.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

We had an '81 and a Turbo '80.  Shakers are cool.  Once we popped open the shaker you could hear the air being sucked in, love the sound!  :thumbsup: 

I still have the shaker but the car is long gone....wonder if it'll work on the Challenger?  :stirpot:

I married into mine (oops....my wife's)  :bigsmile: .Her father had originally bought it for her brother back in 1989, and it passed back and forth between him and my wife while they were in high school/college.  He was in the Air Force and transferred to Japan in 1993, so it became my wife's at that point.  We married in 95, and that's how I got into it.  Looking back we had actually considered selling it several times.  We were both in the Coast Guard and didn't always feel like hauling it around when we transferred.  We are now out of the service, and are glad beyond belief that we never sold it.

I think I got into mopars by chance.  My favorite car is a 64-65 GTO, but there are very few left as project cars that were in my budget.  Most of them that I saw were either way to expensive or complete basket cases.  When I went out looking for my first car I started looking for a bax Nova because they kind of looked like a little GTO to me, but even they were out of my range.  So I ended up with my 69 dart.  Then I started learning and reading about other mopars and jsut fell in love with them.  So when I saved up enough money to get a project car I was mostly looking at mopars and for a 64-65 GTO.  So I pretty much would have gotten any mopar or a GTO.  So after looking at a bunch of cars the best one I found was my 71 Challenger and it just started from there.  Now I eat, sleep, and breath E bodies. Cudas and challengers are now my second favorite car.  I still want to get a 65 GTO one day.

You would hate the owner of the restaurant next to the shop where I work. He has a white 65 GTO and a maroon 65 GTO. They are both daily drivers that he drives to the restaurant. He alternates between each car almost daily. They look really nice. I hear he has several others as well. I know where a 65 convertible is sitting beside a house that we haven't asked about yet. We'll get to it eventually.

My first exposure to an E body was when I was a kid and had a huge Hotwheel collection. Two of my favorites were the Snake and the Mongoose. But the Snake stood out to me as my favorite Hotwheel of all. it must've been the flip top funny car body. The grille looked meaner than the rest of my collection also.

Then one night my folks came home with the Barracuda. and I never wanted any other musclecar but a 71 cuda after that. Still would like to own a 70 too.

I had a '67 mustang in college and had a great time with that car. My brother and I souped it up. I intended to keep it forever, but one day it got accordioned on the freeway, and I was nearly killed. I swore off muscle cars after that.

A friend of mine was into mopars a few years later, and the itch to have a muscle car again became irresistable. I saw a 'cuda in a parking lot, and was instantly smitten. The lines are just better than that of any other muscle car. Poking around, I found mine for $3400 and bought it off some kids. It's been in my garage the last 20 years, I've slowly been working on it.

I'm a little different about one thing, though. I go to the mopar shows, and see the mopars immaculately restored. They're far better than they ever were new. But they leave me cold. I like the unrestored ones better. I like 'em when the paint isn't perfect, the bumper isn't so shiny, and they look just a tad disreputable. To me, that makes them perfect. Although I've never smoked, I like them when their interiors smell of cigarette smoke. I loathe chromed engine parts.

There are finesse cars, like Ferraris, which look good immaculate. Then there are the brute force cars, of which e-bodies are the best.

I was rear-ended by a garbage truck (whose brakes had failed) and pushed into the car in front of me. The car was bowed up at both ends, the only straight part on it was the right door.

I broke the steering wheel off with my face, and got severe whiplash. I was wearing a cinched up tight lap belt, and where it ran across my hips were large bruises. The truck hit me at about 30 mph (I was stopped). The energy absorbing crush of the back half of the car is what saved me. Wearing the lap belt probably saved me from broken legs and hips or worse.

I swore that never again would I own a car that didn't have a headrest and shoulder harness. I also no longer want anything to do with convertibles, they aren't strong enough. The '72 Challenger has what I need to feel safe, besides being without question the best looking musclecar.

Growing up as a kid my dad owned a '65 Chrysler Newport, and a '66 Dodge Dart.  He also had a '72 Newport.  My best friend living across the street had a '70 Challenger.  Mopars were alive and well and were quickly becoming a part of my everyday life at an early age.

The Detroit Dragway was also only 5 miles away.  The AM radio would constantly advertise the drag strip every weekend. Who could deny Sox and Martin and the mopars they raced?  They were legends to me. http://www.musclecarcalendar.com/CarShows2004/LasVegasMopar/MoparsP3.htm These were the images and realities of the late 60's and early 70's that I grew up with and I knew in my heart that I had to have a Cuda, no exceptions. 

In summary, I got my Cuda and I'm thankful for the mopar influence that I was exposed to as a kid.  I like all the mopar bodys, but the E-body is still my favorite.

boy this thread has been going awhile.

Anyway here it is

Anyone that has met my wife knows she is a gear head, and she grew up having a 72  cuda, since she has had other mopars chargers etc, transams and now the chally.  I on the other hand grew up in a cheby family and I did like the 68 camaro Z28 an awefull lot, I had several camaros through the years and when we first met and got married we went to moparfest and I actually liked the 69 dart swingers a lot, then we would go to car shows and see other mopars and once you hear them rummble like no other car, it just is the best.  I tracked down a 70 swinger in california and we went to look at it, but it wasn't exactley what was advertised, then we found the chally and that was it.  My wife still is looking to buy a 70-71 cuda at some point as her next car.   For me the challenger is the best, please don't take offense cuda owners, but a lot of the cuda's look plain, the chally has much better appearance to me.
