Decided to try something differnet with my bumpers...
« on: July 03, 2012 - 10:55:07 AM »
I decided to switch to the older syle bumperettes on my 74 over the winter, whch required a change in bumper brackets and a 70 style bumper.

I had intended on painting the bumper anyway, so i picked up a rough rear core that needed some work.

Once I had it all primed I sort of liked it, and decided to leave it, at least for now anyway...

I did the front the same way.

I figure most guys won't like it, but I think it looks neat.

My front bumper is flat primer black and people seem to like it. My car has won tree show awards this year including top mopar at the goodguys summer get together. I primered it before I painted the car and am to cheap to buy a rubber bumper.

Looks good Jason! I'd paint it the same colour as the lower trunk panel.

i'm not a big fan of the painted bumpers. i think the chrome adds a bit of pop to the look of the car.
but the grey painted bumper looks cool. never seen that before. i wonder how it would look if it
matched the tail panel.

I actually like painted bumpers too.  On your particular car, where it's so colorful, I'm not sure the flat black works tho.  I have a set of cores that I hit with primer years ago and they looked OK on my beater Challenger at the time, I'm considering repainting them with semigloss "trim black" or even going fancy and doing the bumpers and rear trim with a bit of pearl or "black chrome" that some people use on their wheels.  I think that would give the car a more sinister look, but still keep a little shine and make it look more finished.  I think it would be a good look for your car if you decide to keep the black bumpers.

Have you considered painting the chrome trim around the tail panel to match the bumper?  Seems like that would tie it all together to me, and agree paint the bumper bolts too.  That's my .02.  Neat look the way it is though so if you like it just the way it is, cool.

I love it.  The round taillights on a Cuda I like...but those bumpers sticking out so far and the huge black bumper stops...not so much.  I will be doing the 70-71 bumper swap as well.

I too painted my bumpers flat black, i really like the look.

I did not prep them very well, just wiped them down with solvent and sprayed them, so they scratch easily.
Next time I plan to sand them down, prime them with etching primer, and the paint them.
