Newbie in SF Bay Area
« on: July 03, 2012 - 02:48:07 PM »
Hi everyone,
A quick note to introduce myself. I am the proud owner of a #s matching AAR which I purchased back in 2001
because it was the car I always wanted in High School. (and it turned out to be a cheaper mid life crises then the long legged blond was!! :roflsmiley:) I am slowly getting it into shape, engine and suspension done, next step will be dash/instrument/radio work. The car is a driver with some rust in the usual places (trunk floor, rear lower qtrs), but its my baby and puts a big smile on my face every time I fire her up! One thing I would like an opinion on is when I get around to paint, (which will be a while, again driver is the key here) I want to change it from Rally Red to FM3. I get the purists who say absolutly not, and the others who say its your car why not?  :feedback:
Thanks for letting me participate, I have already gleaned a great deal of helpful info from the forums.

"There's no such thing as putting a '70 AAR 'Cuda exactly where you want it. The 'Cuda isn't interested in such things, for they require finesse. Finesse asked the 'Cuda out to dinner once, but the 'Cuda stood it up to go drink beer under an overpass with her hot little sister. As far as this car is concerned, finesse can go stuff itself."

Would love to see pictures of the car.  As far as paint goes bud, i think if the car is going to be built nut and bolt as original as possible keep the paint original too, but anything beyond that enjoy the color of your choosing.  I like the AAR stripes and may go that route on my 71, but Im sure there are some purists that think that on a 71 is blasphemy.  Are you building to enjoy or building in the prospect of a future sale?  Personal enjoyment = color of your choosing.

Greg

We purchased our AAR in 1985, it was Ivy Green Metallic EF8.  It need painted.
I decided on FM3. It has been painted twice. 1986-2006.
I'd take the RALLYE RED over Ivy Green M.  Keep it Original...........

All I can say is, Rallye Red is a handsome color.  Looks good on the car, and you'll get a lot of great feedback now and in the future.  With the nature of the AAR being #s matching, luckily for you, the original color is something that is at least within the realm of what you'd like.  That way, the decision to paint it original isn't going to be dissatisfying.
