rear window trim(inside)
« on: July 05, 2012 - 02:40:10 PM »
Does the inside rear window trim come into contact with the glass?  Right now the trim is basically flush with the metal lip.  That means there will be a decent sized gap bewteen the trim and the rear glass.  Is this right?  I had to loosen the bottom trim and pry it up in order to slide in the 1/8" thick package tray.  There is no room for any insulation under the tray right now.  I wonder if the bottom trim has to stick up past the lip of the opening...that way you can install some inulation and the trim will come closer to the glass.  Anyone have any pictures of this area?  I know the sealer the factory used oozed out onto the trim but I don't know how far the trim was from touching the glass.

Also, with cars that had no rear speakers(or just one rear speaker) did the insulation cover the unused speaker opening(s)?

Not sure if this helps, but the jute insulation on my package shelf had one opening covered. It was pre-scored to remove, but was still in place originally.

On my car it does not touch. For the most part, about 1/8" away. A little more at the top as I recall.

OK, so does the jute go all the way back under the trim or is it shy of that.  I suppose I can just lift up the front of the package tray and slide some insulation in as far as I can get it.

So the butyl compresses a little so you end up with about an 1/8" gap.  Everyone says to use butyl tape but mine used something else.  Butyl tape wouldn't have oozed onto the trim and the A-pillars.

Ack. That I don't recall specifically...

I'm thinking that the jute didn't go all the way to the edges. I know it didn't on the sides, but I don't think it did front to back, either.

My back window has never been out but I have had the inside trim off, the trim fits pretty snug across the middle 2/3rds but does gap out about the thickness of a nickel at the corners. There is plenty of room for the package tray & insulation, about 1/4".  I looked at the OE tray and the jute covers the entire piece except for a couple of notches where the clips went at the very front edge. I'm pretty sure the jute covered the speaker openings.  If I recall correctly when I installed the trim without the package tray in place it did not leave room to slide it under but after loosening or removing the lower trim I was able to reinstall the tray/insulation then put the trim on.

OK, I'll try that...install the insulation and package tray...then install the bottom trim.  Thanks
