1970 Challenger convert

I found a 1970 Challenger convert PROJECT car..original 318 auto on the column white with red interior. Owner has new sheet metal and some NOS parts including a factory T/A hood. Power windows is about the only high option on the car. He is wanting 10 k for the car and all the parts. This looks like a major project but it is a drop top chally. Rear frame rails need to be replaced along with trunk and floors...I am on the fence with this one. Any input to help my decision..

Yor gonna spnd 50 k to restore it if you have the hard to find pats. Buy one done for 35k

I hate to say it but i agree with Hemi Orange it will cost you a fortune even if you did everything yourself. I would say the car and the parts are worth $5-6k but I'm not sure what you do with it once it's in your garage. If you did all the metal work and paint yourself and had a parts car sitting there you might break even but you'd regret it. Buy one done or buy one that is more worth restoring. Look back what everyone said about the Cuda Vert.
   http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=85626.0 He paid wayyyyy less for the Cuda Vert and it's a Real Big block Cuda Vert with Fender tag and in much better shape. The Cuda is worth probably twice what this Challenger would be worth done.

Not sure if this car is still for sale?  Asking $40K for a fully restored 70 Challenger 'vert with 318, all numbers matching.  If the car is still for sale, I would make them an offer (how much is up to you).  Even if you pay $40K you are WAY ahead with this car over the car you are looking at...

P.S.  Even if you want a more powerful drive train, still $$$ ahead to buy a car like this and drop in the engine & transmission of your choice and put the numbers drive train on the shelf for safe keeping...

Based on my personal experience with my convertible no truer words have been shared with you.  As you can see from the car mentioned in the quote there are alot of very nice cars in that price range and from a parts point a view are worth double that amount.  You will be digging deep in your wallet way past that amount to get that car into shape.  What ever you decide good luck though.

At 10K, you're buying rust by the 20 pound bag at the same spot price of Gold by the ounce!

Then the money pit just begins.

It's always cheaper to buy someone elses completed project.

Thanks guys...after thinking it over and adding up labor it is not worth it at all. Plus the guy wont return my calls now...no need to force it..Ill keep looking. :iagree:

wow, thats the same color combo as our chally vert.  Supposedly, they only made 99 with white paint and 137 with a red interior.  But I agree, that looks way too far gone.  Ours was in complete condition with numbers matching 318, trans, fender tag, and broacast sheet and we paid under $35,000
