How do I take a rallye clock apart?

Just wondering if anyone knows or has a diagram on how to take a rallye clock apart, 72-74 style. Mine does not work and I am planning to repair it. I think I have to grind off rivets, but I hope not. I have the clock out of the dash, but that is as far I have taken it.

Did a search and found a link for a diagram, http://rt-eng.com/mediawiki/images/c/cf/EbodyRallyeClock1209.pdf, however it is forbidden at this time.

Any tips, photos, or walk-troughs out there?

The clock is an electromechanic contraption and not very accurate.
DashWorx (earlier RT-Eng) sells a conversion kit to make it a quartz clock. If you have plans to take it apart and make it work, a quartz conversion would be the way to go. The kit has all small parts needed, rivets etc, and an instruction how to do it.

You do have to grind the rivets to get at the innards.  The quartz movement is much more accurate but you lose the tick tock sound that an electromechanical one makes.

I believe dashworx sold rebuilt ones or would rebuild yours if you sent it to them.  Obviously this costs more than a kit but you don't have to worry about screwing it up

The electromechanical clocks use a spring that winds and unwinds every 3 minutes or so (you can hear it).  Eventually the metal fatigues and the spring content changes resulting in less and less accurate time and then eventually it just stops all together.

Thanks for the info, confirmed what I thought. Definity going to do a conversion kit when I fix it.

Found one on eBay from clocks4cars, I will also look into dash worx.

So how do you take the hands off the clock?

Or do they come off when the rivets are drilled out?

They are pushed on. Pull the second hand off, then you see how the others are pushed on.

Drill the rivets out from the backside.  Don't throw them out and re-glue them on after the conversion.

Howdy folks, I just added the quartz movement to my clock but I'm having problems with peening over the new rivets. Any hints on how to do it. The Directions from RTE said to use a small hammer to do this but I'm not having any luck with it. I have EFFED  :banghead: up the white face that I just painted trying to do this, I'm gonna have to get the new decal off and refinish the face again. The pic is before.
