I'm running 3.73 with 275/60R15's...  wish I knew the rpms but my gauge doesn't work.   :hyper:

The A518 OD makes my 360 purr at 75 mph.    :woohoo:

Same as my 69 cuda but 727 only.
It's abt 2900rpm at 62mph

My challenger has the same tyres at 28" tall with 3.23s and is around 2550 rpm at 62mph.
Burnouts are cool but Traction is the Action

Just wondering what gears you guys are running in your old mopar?  I have 3.23's in my 8 3/4....and it kills me on the highway.  Tachs 3200 RPM at 70 MPH.  I'm thinking about going back to 2.76!
I understand your point of view fully!!!  I prefer the highway gear too. My previous 70 Challenger had a 383 auto with 2.76 it was perfect for me. The Challenger I am restoring now will also have a 383 magnum, with the same tire as my 70 had, (235/60R15), but has a manual transmission. I think that 2.76 is a little too much with a manual transmission, so I will go a step lower: 2.94. But, there won' t be a big difference for gas milleage between 2.76 and 3.23. For me, it's just a matter of keeping the RPM a little lower.

Wow. mpg in a hot rod? Keep in mind that i first had this combo. when gas was $1.00 a gal... 1970 challenger R/T pro-street. Big block 4-speed (no od.)  29" tires 5.38 gear, 15 gallon fuel cell. You don't go on long trips or hwy. But it is a blast to bang through the gears once you are up town, driving red light to red light. Now with gas prices i am switching to 4.30 or maybe 4.10. I hope to pick up one at the nats. It's getting close to time go!

I've got a 4.10 and a 727 on 26" tires! Yeah it screams, It's a street car too... It's pretty difficult to drive, I stay around 45-50 on the highway, needless to say people don't like me very much.
I'm swapping for another 8 3/4 case I bought locally with 3.55 gears after I put a new detroit truetrac suregrip in it. Hopefully after that I will still be good with stoplight to stoplight drags and also be able to manage a highway cruise  at 65-70 mph

Mine came with the 3.23 posi and it seems like a good all around ratio for this car.

3.23's with a 26" tire.  Sings nicely on the freeway.  Make long trips regularly and get decent mileage.

Here I'm thinking 3,500 rpm on the freeway is taking it easy, lol

Good-quiet mufflers help and the drive shaft needs to be balanced. When I went from 3.21 to 3.91 the car shook around 80, never noticed it before, tranny guy told me to find a place that balance drive shafts - it work and that was over 10 years ago

3,000, even 2,500 is a nice cursing rpm but I can't drive 55 and yeah, traffic can be a hassle. Our min speed on freeways  is 55 here in Michigan-used to be 45 but was raised..Wal Mart trucks do go the limit at 60, only thing I passed. I wish the semi trucks had the same speed limits like some states have, most do go 65 though.

I got a Motor Trend mag from 1970 were they tested the Road Runner with the 440 six pack and 4.10 gears  and another RR with the 383 and 3.55 gears, dig this, Motor Trend said ET wise they were close but the 440 car with the 4.10 gear was the "safer" car going 90 to 110 cause it pulled quicker-passed quicker..talk about screaming on the freeway, lol
