    Hello everyone!

    I am completely new to Muscle classics so please be patient with me.  I will post the pictures once/if I get her!

    Now here are my Noob questions:
    WHat can you guys tell me about 74' Cudas? Mine is  perf. 440, 727 auto with 3.23 rear, 'in Violet'.
    What should I be watching out for? Any tips on winter regular maintenance?

    Hi there  :wave:


    First of all you have to be very careful with buying a car sight unseen especially since your new to this.
    Pictures will help determine if the car is at a good price that your going to pay. So get those up as soon as possible.

    74 was the last year of the Barracuda / cuda
    If the vin starts with a BS23 it's a cuda if it's BH23 it's a Barracuda same body but the cuda got more options.
    The 440 is not the original motor it wasn't a option for that year.
    As for the In Violet I believe it's a bit rare if that's the original color.

    If it's a project you should look for rust and it could be anywhere on the car.
    If its a restored or semi restored car you may run into a crappy restoration job in other words bondo!
    So get some pics up, let us know what hes asking and where it's located.

    Thank you  TorOrange! I had no idea Cuda and Barracuda are two different models!...

    Well as for my "pending buy deal"its my last chance to actually back out of the deal this friday, however  I really want it..and I dont want to pass on a good deal.  What should I look for before I actually pay for it?  I do have moderate mechanical knowledge but I appreciate any Cuda owner input :burnout:

    Well if it's a project then you'll be looking for rust. Depending on where the car has been it's life and how it's been stored it may have a lot of it.

    Location to look for rust would be front and rear floor pans, rockers, frame rails, door frame, front inner fenders, cowl, above the windshield, around the rear window, especially the bottoms of the quarter panels, trunk floor and extensions.

    If your looking at a restored or semi restored painted or primered car same applies look at those areas for crappy quick cheap restoration jobs.

    The very FIRST thing to do is make sure the VIN stampings on the body match the VIN on the title.  Also look at the VIN tag on the dash.  The dashpad could have been replaced and may have a different VIN on it.  It's best if they all match but don't get too excited if the dash VIN is different.  You can find the VIN stampings on the rad support on the drivers side.  There is another stamping on the drivers side cowl area.  Make sure those match the title.

    I was the same when I got my Challenger, had nooooo idea what a Challenger Rallye was, only knew it was challenger, never mind about the different years and models!

    I'm sure it's an exciting time for you.  As 74challenger03 mentioned, do you have any pics?  Show us pics or the exterior, engine bay, interior, underside, trunk.

    Looks for rot/rust in the floors, trunk pan, frame rails as with any old car.  Vinyl top?  Might be rot there too.  Engine smoke?  Run smooth?  Any crud on the rockers if you look through the oil fill hole on the valve cover?  Any of the eninge oil look milky?  Tranmission shift ok?  Just the general run of the mill old car questions...

    Don't think that's the factory color for that year, don't think it was offered, but it's a cool color so who cares if it didn't come from the factory like that.  Can't tell for sure unless you decode the fender tag under the hood.

     

    Any idea when the 440 went into it?  As mentioned by TorOrange, that's not the origianl engine or original tranny as it has a big block tranny and only small blocks were offered from 1972-1974 in Challengers and Barracudas.

    Thank you for all the replies guys!!.  Hey...I hope its ok if I post the pictures even though the car is not mine >>not yet:)
    what do you guys think?  body is in Ok < C+ > shape.  Runs and drives very good. :working:
    Engine is fresh.  All vins match, clearly except the engine.  12k

    I like the hockey stick stripe.   It makes it look more like a 1970 model.

    It looks good in the pictures.   12 grand sounds fair.

    If there's ANY rust on it what so ever, 12K is way over priced.  I'd only pay 12 if it was a rust free car that only needed a repaint. :2cents:

    Just saw the vieo, car looks pretty presentable, small rust issues around the windows, hard to tell from the video.

    Sorry if I missed it, but how are the floors/trunk pan/frame rails?  For $12k it looks like a nice driver.
