70 Hemi Cuda over heating
« on: July 15, 2012 - 08:29:08 PM »
Hello there
recently put my Hemi cuda on the road for the 1st time
it tends to heat up to 245 Degrees then stalls out on the road.
Is this considered to high ?
I had the timing set to 36 degrees
it also has a new aluminum 3 core rad ?
then I cant get it started ?
this has happened 3 times on me already
Its driving me crazy
plus it had 2 electrical issues  one the alternator went then the coil   lol
5 tows already
any advise ?
Ron

36 degrees initial?  :22yikes: How did you get it to start. Or do you mean total timing?
If so, what is your initial? You're gonna be lucky to have a running engine if you keep overheating it like that.
Is the thermostat stuck closed? Do you have a radiator shroud, clutch fan?
If I cant fix it, it's broke

We need more info , I assume 36* total timing which is right , 245 is far too high , 225 max
Clutch fans are the most efficient , electric not so much . if you are running electric fans that can draw more power then the alt can supply , therefore alt problems !!
Shrouds are a huge help  .
Are you using a 440 source water pump housing , theyare very restrictive ?
What thermostat ? 180* is best .
Do you have  a wire coil int  the lower rad hose to prevent it collapsing .sucking shut ?
What do the plugs look like you could be running very lean creating more heat .
