NOS Challenger Flat hood - VA
« on: July 16, 2012 - 01:10:55 PM »
Well, nearly NOS anyway.  I have a flat hood from my 71 Challenger.  It was orderd from Chrysler in the 80's and put in storage after the original was damaged.  We painted it purple with RM base clear and put it on the car last year, it was on for like 4 months before I swapped out to an RT hood.  It does not have the outline for the Dodge emblem and has never had one on it.  absolutely 0 rust, perfect condition.  I am not sure what it is worth.  $500 obo.  Comes with slightly damaged year one silencer pad that is on it as well as the safety latch.  PM or 540-335-12six0

I know it is not a super sought after part, however it is the best of its kind.  Would be perfect for a shaker conversion, the metal on these is much heavier then the new reproduction parts.  I would consider trades for various things I am looking for.  I would also invite any offer.  I can deliver in the mid-Atlantic for a fee or would be happy to help with shipping.

Looks like you have a 72-74 flat hood.  People want the 70-71 style most of the time for the shaker hood conversion.

That is totally possible.  Like I said it was purchased in the 80's as NOS so it would make sense that it is late production.  The car is a 71 but lord knows what they sent.  My understanding was it does have the post 70 "crumple zone"(my 70 Rallye hood does not) but what I thought was a 71 style safety latch.  What would be the differences so I know for sure?  It does not have the 3 spoke star dodge logo outlined on the hood.

This is the main outward sign.  There are several small differences also like the size of the bolts that hold the hood on are different from your 70 hood.  The shape of the framing of the hood can be different.   There are a few possibilities with the hood.   The Dodge emblem mount can be grafted into the newer style hood.  It can be used as is for a conversion or a restoration.  With reproduction shaker hoods for sale now, it may take some time to sell your hood.

Cool, thanks for letting me know.  I actually hate that Dodge logo and I have seen several shaker cars without the logo but the place to mount it is there.  I would rather have it be gone myself!   So I guess what I have is a 72-74 hood.  Reproduction on ebay is $625 shipped.  Make me any offer you like, can't hurt my feelings!

There are a lot of people who would still rather have a factory hood over a reproduction one.   Be patient and you will find a buyer.  Good luck with your sale.
