It might be over used but the hemi clones are still selling very well. I can convert a car to a hemi for 20K very quickly. There are sources for every little part now. That 20K conversion will pretty much guarantee you an extra 30K on a 70 or 71 e body or a 68-70 b body. Just do your research on recent auctions. Don't take my word for it.
i've been in this hobby/industry since the 80's,
and that's cause of how old i am, if i was older, i'd probably would have been in it longer. and unfortunately, i don't have any older relatives that were into it, so i didn't have anyone to mentor me. what i know is learned from scratch. so, i don't really need to do the research, i keep tabs with what goes on in this hobby/industry. plus, i'm not just Mopar blind, i'm into the GM and Ford (amc.....i really want an AMX) cars too, so i keep tabs on a lot of the American cars (at least as much as i can).
your absolutely correct, hemi clones are still selling very well. that's because the masses are trying to grasp onto something that they missed back in the day. maybe because they didn't have the dough, or bought into the whole gas shortage fiasco, or one of a thousand different reasons. everybody want's a hemi. I feel, because they are selling well, that doesn't make them unique anymore. 20+ years ago, if someone told you they had a hemi car (real or transplanted), your eyes would light up and you'd be impressed (unless you owned one too). but in today's world, telling someone that you have a hemi in your car just doesn't have the same appeal. i will say this, the larger the number is before the word hemi, the quicker your appeal level will escalate.
when a large number of the population can own the same thing at the same time, it now becomes ordinary. i like extraordinary things. i'll take that 340 3 speed car over any hemi or clone any day of the week, just to say i have one.
sorry, i'm just rambling......................
