Yes, okay, I'll give you the last point, but, I also garuntee that the kids you were talking about actually did all that to their car themselves.  I doubt if the Ricers of today could even change their oil, let alone do REAL performance mods.  All they can do is buy the bodykit, and take it to the shop to be installed.

Certainly none of the "kids" today know what they are doing. But, how do you explain some of us old f**ts with both old Mopars and "rice". Maybe we only know what we are doing when we work on the Mopar.

Those kids should come to us for advice!

You seem to misunderstand me.  A "Ricer" is a person with ANY car, that adds a completly pointless wing on a FWD, and, thinks that it is faster, and handles better because of it.  A "Ricer" thinks that adding stickers for parts that are NOT on the car is cool.  A "Ricer" is someone who adds a completely worthless bodykit to make the car LOOK lower, instead of actually lowering the car.  That is a Ricer.  Unless you do that, then, you are not a Ricer.

This is what I've found out. Hot Rod mag did a story on the quickest muscle car from the big three and this is what they published, 1970 Hemi Cuda 13.1 sec. in 1/4 mile, 1969 454 c.i. Camaro ran 13.1 sec., and 1967 Fairlane 427 c.i. 12.9 sec.. Upon studying the times of the sport compacts in the price range of $40,000 or less, none have lower 1/4 mile times than those 3 muscle cars. Also from studying 1/4 mile race tracks posted times, once you hit the 9 sec. mark sport compacts can no longer keep up. Has anyone found anything different than this? :coffee:

I thought I said that already................ :dontknow:

Well I really don't understand the question. But heres my take on it.

Your muscle car... lets just say a cuda for example.  lets start off with a runnign and driving 72-74. They go for about what 10k for a decent one with a small block?  Now buying a big  block and building it,buliding the trans and rear to hold it, the wheels and tires etc. That right there is about 10 k to get the car in the high 11's. Maybe you could do it cheaper. So now your into it for 20k, no air conditiong and tachin out at 3,500 going 60mph down the free way to get to the track listening to loud pipes resonace  beating into your head giving you a head ache.

Now some of the imports today you can but new for less then 20k and they run low to high 13's right from the factory. Ex. Lancer evo,srt 4, wrx, etc. lets not forget the 90-99 turbo dsm's and v tec hondas you can snag for dirt cheap, about 5k running high 14's stock. The after market is so huge for these imports . with a little computer work, a free flowing exhaust, intake, turbo upgrade etc, you can get them into the 12's fairly easily,CHEAP ,still be reliable and drive to the track and whatever speed you would like, hold a coversation with the radio and air conditioing on a still rip off a quick time.

I like both, but if you wnat an everyday driver and also like performance/somewhat of gas milage and import is an alright car to go with.
Now when you start getting to the low 11second range, it takes alot more money to start making the car go faster. this is where a muscle car would start gettign cheaper but now your turning into a strictly race car. Both have there good and bad parts. You guys probably think I'm nuts now but if any of you had the experience of  both, you can relate to what im saying.

Might I add "A ricer is" the guy who puts on Purple Hornies, diamond tuck seats, fuzzy package deck, and air shocks (for the rev Craigers) on a Cuda. Did you know that they had "Ricers in 1970? Well, actually I put in the fuzzy package tray. (Kind of liked it then).

So taste has nothing to do with time. It might have something to do with age. But where the car was built is irrelevant.

Oh, and FWD cars are not immune from the benefits of down force. Lowering a car and putting on a body kit may both achieve less airflow under the car but the affects on the suspension are entirely different.

I know i shouldn't open my mouth...but oh well....but if i'm not mistaken...I'm still a kid (17)  and i do own a front wheel drive that i'm planning on modding and putting ground effects on and stuff.  and i know how to turn a wrench...on the newer stuff i know just as much or more than my dad...on cars he beats me with Hyd. on a tractor and stuff...and the wing on the daytona and superbird was to create a ton of down force...Does a spoiler on the SRT10 create downforce...sure does....but at what speed...Over 120...Humm how many people drive 120 on curves just to say the spoiler is effective to every day driving...the spoiler on the SRT10 is mainly for looks...and it looks gay if you ask me...The wing on the Bird...Doesn't create that much downforce on the road...does it look gay...to me know..to others probably....Do i think the wing looks gay on a ricer...yeah...but if you put the right spoiler on it looks good..and we got way off the subject...V8s rule the stripe...becasue someone else said it...no replacement for Displacement...but you can't say that Ricers aren't quick...you say Muscle cars rule the strip but who rules the road corses?? not a Mopar or a muscle car....and i've seen them try....with alot of mods done to the suspension. and the Ricers don't need to many mods to run a road corse..so i don't really see what makes the difference who rules what...just have fun with what ever race your racing..each car has its place in a race...its not all just about drag...

We worked with what was available, so do the kids today, I was lucky, the smallest eng I had in those days was the 360 cuda, had a 383 (in a barge 66/300) a 440 in a 65 satilite (above car brings back memories!) & a 389 in a 66 GTO, all 14 or 15 sec cars(well cept the barge) :o, the satilite had the best chance of becoming a fast car, but never got around to eng ,mods, with the dana 456 rear I beat everything that pulled up next to me till 4th gear, i was done & they usually kept goin, funny how a couple a hundred dollars was so far outta reach back then!
A decent cam with a bit a top end & I might have won a few more times! :'( Rich.
