2 speed to 3 speed conversion
« on: July 22, 2012 - 10:26:03 PM »
Would like to convert my 2 spped wiper motor to a 3 speed on my '70 challenger.    I have the 3 speed motor & pivot arm and the "arms" or 3 speed wiper transmission.....  I also have the 3 speed wiper switch.    So -- what am I missing for this project?

Any tricks before I start

One thing -- my 2 speed has a "ballast resister" (2 prong) attached to it ( in addition to the one on the firewall.()   What's this all about?

Thanks for your help!

I think you have all you need except the molded plug as the wires are in different positions on the back of the switch . Slotts may be able to help with the plug .

Seems like I had to cut the two prong part loose from the two speed plug plug to seperate it to fit the three speed wiper switch. It's been a while. I know it's different under the hood as well. Been too long.

Anyone gone through this process who might be able to provide more specifics?

Thanks

I did this 2 or 3 years ago, my car is a 1970 also. The most important thing I found was getting the correct parts.

Wiper motor - 3431077
Motor crank - 2822289
Link(from crank) - 2822293
Var. spd swc - 2770380

The rest was just bolt on and plug in. I didn't change anything in the connector to the new switch as far as I recall.  The ballast resistor is only for 2 speed applications.

Sorry, just dawned on me that you're converting to a 3 speed. Since the switches are a different size it looks like there will be the need for some connector modification.

Hmmm     Is the only difference between a 3 speed motor and variable the switch?
