What was that guy smoking?
A 71 Cuda convertible big block car, and he is trying to lowball you. That's a nice looking car.

thank you! It's still a 2bbl Barracuda, but yes big block, and orange.. that Challenger up there could be a sweet clone car.
My plans are to keep this orange one numbers matching and make a billboard-shaker orange 383 Cuda out of it.. there are enough HEMI clones out there and I cant rip out the original guts to this baby..

The above car could make a great 440 6 pack convert clone... or just a clean old plain jane cruiser!

$15k would be reasonable in this market, and depending on thr real rust issues, it could be high.  I believe that hood is also a 72-74.  Makes me wonder if it were ever hit and replaced with parts from a 72.

:iagree:  I noticed that too, '71 was the only year with no D-O-D-G-E letters across the front of the hood.

If the car is close to stock, I would just get it running and enjoy it.  318 would make a good cruiser, would have the V8 rumble and decent on gas.

Might not need all that much to get it running.  When I got my car (from a barn as well) it only needed a carb rebuild as far as the drivetrain went to get it going.  Body looks presentable.  I would just check for rust issues undeneath depending of the barn had a dirt floor or cement floor.  :2cents:

After paying 15K for mine, I would have easily paid 5K more for a solid car.  That means that I would probably pay $20,000 for a car that you pictured. They ONLY made 2,165, 71 Challenger Convertibles. Just came from the Mopar Nationals 2012. There are people with money burning a hole in their pocket to spend on the right car. All that guy has to do is mention it to other people and it'll be gone before you make your offer. I hope one is on the table by now. There aren't any cheap ones out there for sale.  I took out my 1st and only home equity loan to buy my car because I WANTED ONE BAAAD!

Hope your pic doesn't vanish soon, so I grabbed it.

Just wondering did you pull the trigger and buy it.  My car was a basket case but I drove it until the 318 started smoking.  All the time buying parts for it to fix it up.  Pre-marriage buying so I could just buy the parts I wanted for the car and put them in the other side of the garage.   Now  that I'm married just buying gas and insurance is a challenge given the needs of my family.  I can't describe how satisfying it is driving my car and I forget what a joyful experience it is.  If you buy it and getting it running you will know the feeling too.  You won't be sorry.   The key is getting the car to a place where you can drive it even if it is just once in a while.

That car is so unique.
Hardly any options. It deserves to be restored just the way it was.

Yep, you're 100% right. My friend has a red one just like it (sister car). It's only options were AM radio and power top. I swear he gets more attention with that car than some Hemi clones.

I guess it's sorta OK to go off topic a bit since the OP hasn't been on since July 24th

:iagree:   I agree as well.  Would make a cool cruiser, sorta ala Mike Brady.

Did you see the top door gap on the drivers door/rear quarter?  Precision design or rusted unibody?  I wonder if the car is folding up on itself.  I saw an MGB do this, the passenger door became part of the structural integrity of the car!  ::)

Nothing that a little welding can't fix.

Heard a friend had to push on the windshield frame to close the door on a vert he was selling because of the same thing. Had his butt in the seat and his 2 legs pushing the top of the windshield as hard as he could. Door got closed, car got loaded on a trailer.  E-Body vert was folding up on itself because the rockers were so rusty.

Thanks Phil.  Life is too short to ever do that again......
I still have a Cuda that needs paint and interior. I might just sell it.

tot he original poster another place to check for some bad rust under the hood where the master cylinder bolt tot he firewall.. the openings on the cowl had a way of collecting dirt  dust leaves debris etc and rotting out ... the fenders and quarters are an easy fix but the firewall and cowl area is harder to replace in my opinion... Just my two cents....

This car didn't sell for $17,000 it was two 0 feedback bidders fighting it out that never contacted them. The last real bidder was $13k. Last I heard they were trying to get a hold of him but not sure if it sold or not.
