cuda project car tri-cities, michigan!
« on: July 25, 2012 - 12:13:46 AM »
 :working:

in the process of buying a 73 cuda from a distant relative... got a great deal on it! only problem is it needs a lot of work... like a LOT...

WORTH IT!  ill put some pics up when i start the "restoration" (i dont plan on a full resto)

i will be in need of parts once i get going. off the top of my head i know for a fact that i need the insert type things for my hood... look like fake air scoops on each side. any help there would be great!!
ALSO! my 318 engine hasnt been run in 15 years (the time the car has been sitting in a garage... i know! what a find!) i may need a new engine.. but not sure at this time! get there soon hopefully!
hope to get to know u guys better!

Sounds like a good score!

Let's see some pics!

You should be able to get the old engine to work again.

Don't throw it away if it is the original engine to the car!

Another Michigan member :D, welcome to CC!  Be sure to get a lot of pictures of the car.

Been in a garage for 15 years is a good thing, limited some of the rust damage the car would have received if it had been out. Who knows about the motor, after I talked my Dad into giving me the challenger, its 383 started right up after sitting for ~10 years.

1970 'Cuda AAR - driving till the Chally gets back.

If you do just need the inserts, I have a pair in very good shape I would let go.  If you need the whole scoop, I think I have those as well?  Have to look.  Funny I went looking for a trim piece for the dash swearing that I had one somewhere and  . . . . I found one.

Sweet!

Looks to be in pretty good shape.
Can't wait to see some more pics!

Why is the front frame rails up on jack stands?
Are the tires shot?

front torque bars were bad- the guy had new ones but never installed, they come with the car.

after a good cleaning she'll look really nice  :)

and about the fake scoops- as you can see in the picture, its just the hood- i need whatever attaches to that...
oh, and ill need some rear side reflectors for both sides if anyone has any for sale!

Looks like you need the scoops and the inserts.  The reflectors you can buy new  . . . If you are going down by Detroit anytime, you will need to stop in to the Cuda candy store in Roseville.   :grinyes:

When you try to resurrect one of the long time sleepers there's a few things I'd recommend. 1-drain the oil and change the filter-BEFORE you try to turn it over. 2- drain the gas tank if it's not already dry and when you add fuel, add some conditioner with it. 3- pull and change the plugs, check the wires and cap/rotor. 4- if it doesn't fire, check the ballast resistor on the firewall for continuity and buy a spare anyways; trust me on this. 5- have a fire extinguisher handy when you try to start it, as a leaky carb or line can cause a fire, too fast. 6- buy a copy of the shop manual, because it'll save you hours of head scratching and saying WTF?! Good luck with your find and welcome to the site.
