Ye old Grille Question...

So the Grille I have on my 70 Cuda is in fairly good shape. There has been a small repair done to it but now that I have the car in my garage I have found that the tabs that the bezel pieces mount to have been broken off on the top of the Grille.

Has anyone made new tabs and used epoxy to affix them by pushing them through and epoxying them in?

Do you still have the tabs?  If so you can epoxy them back on and back it up with aluminum.  Just get some aluminum stock from Home Depot or someplace like that.

That's precisely the problem, I don't. Either make them or buy a new grille altogether.

Do the tabs show when the grille is installed?  Since the tab is strucural, I would bond in some aluminum stock then build up the surface with lots of epoxy, sanding and shaping to make it look like it's supposed to.  If the rest of the grille is nice it's worth a shot.

I had a big hole in my grille and I was able to fill the area with epoxy and a mesh mat.  Here's some examples of the repairs I made on my grille.

Yeah I may give it a go since I need about 8 of the tabs on the top.

What kind of epoxy did you use?

I used stainless or brass sheet metal and a Bondo-like, hard filler. Sticks surprisingly well to the grille plastic. Repaired countless places with this method. Have not seen one crack after 6 years.
