Won't start with key
« on: July 28, 2012 - 08:33:05 PM »
High Gang.....groveling to the all mighty board again to assist with my resto!

So here's the senario, car won't turn over/start with the key. I can turn it to the on position and jump the fender cellinoid and it will start right up and run. I replaced the starter module about 5 years ago when I started the resto and it worked fine then. I rarely start it up, but did so tonight because I rebuit the carb and wanted to make sure everything was good. I did bypass the fusabile link with still no joy.

So any ideas? Could it by my iignitian module/cellinoid or something else?

Any suggestions are appriciated!

Start relay on the inner fender or the NSS switch on the trans , the simple test is to ground the terminal the small brown wire connects to & see fi ti starts with the key , also test the small yellow wire for power in the start position

Do you have the linkages that come off the steering column on the firewall side down to the tranny? Mine did't and it wouldn't start untill the lever that those linkages should hook to was in the correct position? Down I think?

Ahhh...well now I feel a little silly - I actually pulled all the wiring out of the car and still haven't put all the harnesses back in...Neutral Safety switch I bet. I'll try that tonight!

Okay...getting frustrated....I have searched under the car, around the consol shifter and cannot find the switch. Where is it physically located

Thanks!

Assuming you have an automatic /  727 transmission.
Drivers side of transmission right beside the shift rod - 3 round prong switch.

I'll go back and look  - I ended up grounding the "G" lead on the starter realy and that worked. Will need to get it fixed prior to putting the old girl all back together. Thanks to everyone!
