Chroming Cost
« on: August 01, 2012 - 01:03:52 PM »
Sort of off topic, but I have an old 79 Mongoose BMX bike frame that I want to have chromed. It was painted originally but Chrome looks awesome. I'm building it up for my son when he is old enough to ride.

What should it cost to have this done?

A simple chrome bumper off a cuda or Challenger done in show chrome will cost over $400. I would think a bike frame would be a little higher due to the curves and joints of the frame.

Seems as though some areas have higher costs than others.  Might want to stop by a couple places and see where they have their work done and stop by to see how much????

Most of the high cost is in the prep.  Chroming is going to be expensive.  You should look into powder coating.  You aren't going to get a true chrome look with powder coating but there are some high gloss silvers that may look nice.  Even if you decide to not go for the chrome look, powder coating will be a lot more durable then regular paint.
