Cutting off in Drive & Reverse when hot

So I drove the Challenger to work today for the first time and something happened.
1st the engine boggs down a little every time I accelerate from a stop. I've found that if I pump the pedal a few times I'm able to go without it cutting off.

2nd, and I assume this is related, on the way home after a 20 mile trip down the interstate I came to a red light. When I stopped the idle slowed then the engine died. :-[ I put it in neutral, started it up and it seemed fine. As soon as I put it in D it died again. I was able to get through the intersection by revving it in neutral and popping it in to drive with out letting the rev get too low. After getting out of work (the second job) 5 hours later, the car ran normally again, so I'm assuming that is has something to do with engine temp.

Any clues?

Maybe vapor lock? how close is your muffler or tail pipe to the fuel line?  Maybe the wrong gas cap  vented/ non vented. See if you can go ok with the gas cap off for a small cruise.

Hmmm, I actually thought about that but it would start back up immediately and would idle endlessly in neutral and park. It only died when a load was applied. I'll try it anyway, fuel might be restricted a little.

float levels in the carb , poor accelerator pump system , so far we do not even know what kind of carb you have

It is a 750 Edelbrock, not sure of the exact model...

My car was doing something similar.  Run strong for about 20 minutes, then die at a street light.  Start right back up, put it in drive and die.  Let it cool down and repeat.

Mine turned out to be a bad coil.

That is correct also. A bad coil can overheat and show that sympton.  Is the coil showing any leakage?

Frankly a more serious problem may have just arrived. When I tried to replace my header gasket today I may have stripped the head... 5 hours of angry effort down the drain.

Cheap headers are the worst , constant leaks , often ultimatly stripped heads as well as the holes do not line up properly , I often retain the studs with headers , no coolant leaks , easier to line up .

I'm not sure what brand these are. They are not chromed or coated in any way, just bare metal.
When putting it back on I even disconnected the bottom/collector from the rest of the exhaust, so the header was free to move wherever I wanted it to. I'm going to confirm if it is stripped tonight, hopefully. Yesterday I just gave up!

Is there a specific voltage or resistance that is recommended? I see a prices range from $25 to $80, I assume more voltage is better???

I had the same problem and bought my replacement from PepBoys for about $25-30.  Course I'm not looking for a lot of performance since mine is bone stock.

The coil on my six pack setup is located on my intake manifold mounted horizontally under my air cleaner.   I use a MSD-8222 coil due to it is epoxy filled.   Some oil filled coils can be problematic if not mounted vertically.

Mine cost around 50 bucks from Summit Racing.
