Car show judging 101
« on: August 05, 2012 - 04:37:06 AM »
Hey guys, I got one for you.

My local car club has mostly new Mopars (2006+ Chargers, 2008+ Challengers and the like) but it has a few classic mopars too.  There was a car show this last weekend that I did not go to but my car club did.  The show was open to all makes and models.  It was reported back to me that the best in class Mopar trophy went to a GTO!

I have seen some bad calls before but... REALLY?

Wish I was kidding.  A Pontiac GTO won best Mopar.

I would really like to see thier reasoning for this goof up.  How in the owrld did this happen?  Were no Mopars entered into the judging?    :clueless:

If there were Mopars entered for judging and it went to a GTO, that's just plain insulting...  :stomp:

I know that two of the guys from my car club where there.  One has a 1969 Cornet and the other a 1970 Challenger.  Mopars never have a huge showing but there where at least two there.

That's just wierd....  I wonder if the GTO guy that won feels good or embarassed for getting that trophy.

The GTO guy did not go home with the trophy.  I guess they got it all worked out when the crowd was openly surprised when the announcement was made.  I am not sure how it all played out exactly.

A lot of the local car shows around here are for high school fund raisers.  I am not sure who the judges are every time but I have seen 16ish year olds (with adult supervision) running them sometimes.

I was at a car show last year where a beautiful model T? roadster (I am not the best at recognizing these types of cars) got best in class "Rat Rod".  He was openly mad about it and spun his tires when leaving while the rest of the trophies where still being handed out.

I could imagine how either the Model T owner may have been mad from maybe a miscatagorization or maybe was he looking for a bigger trophy, like Best of Show or something?  His car maybe didn't fit well into a catagory...  :dunno:

Who knows what is going through the judges minds, but the least the person running the show could do would be picking a couple people to judge who know at least a little bit about the cars and classes which car should be in.

Recent show I was at the announcer said that best muscle car went to a Ford Roadrunner :\. And some guy I was talking to no longer enters his Corvette into shows because he got 2nd place to a Viper in a Corvette class ...
1970 Challenger SE - in the shop for metal work.
1970 'Cuda AAR - driving till the Chally gets back.
