are you putting an indoor kitchen in there at all? or is that too home-like?

We kicked around a lot of ideas at the start like a kitchen, hot tub, indoor pool and such, but in the end I went with things I wanted that were really low maintenance.

What is it 30' to your kitchen & 10' to the fire pit , make the shop functional , the house is close enough anyway .

But what about the outdoor pool that you are going to put in next to the shop and patio? I heard that salt-water pools are the way to go if you want low maintenance - something about they are more stable in maintaining their chemical balance than a fresh-water pool. Oh and while you're at it, you can build a hot-tub into the side of the pool too! Something like this would look nice next to the patio and shop...

that's SWEEEEET!  I love pools and will most likely regret not putting one in.  Our weather here in the NW isn't pool friendly.

What I found out is the salt water pools are better for the first 5 years or so then the damage from the salt takes over & the maintainence become more costly , . Conversly I was looking into copper ionization as a better why to maintain the fresh water pool

This thread totally blew my mind! Amazing... I'm very interested in the theater room, I mix movies for a living, hopefully you put a lot of info and pictures on this!

That's super cool!  I'll be sure to post lots of photos once it's done.

Would love to hear what you think about Atmos.  I wired for it and put the speakers in without ever hearing it before in person.  1st home movie blu ray with Atmos just came out last month and I'm hoping it was worth the extra effort to put it in place.  Have you had a chance to hear Atmos yet?

I have a home theatre now and never heard of Atmos . . .  So looked it up.  Interesting read . . . But if I understand correct. . . The movie must feature Atmos and currently there aren't any or maybe a few that do?  What does Atmos cost?  Curious . . .

New movies will be adding Atmos when they are release, but even those with Atmos will still have the standard 5.1 and 7.1 they have now.  You need an Atmos pre amp or processor and either speakers in the ceiling or Atmos speakers that bounce sound off the ceiling.  I can not tell you if it's worth it or not, but since I was starting from scratch it's wasn't a lot of work to add the extra speakers.  Some bigger theaters have already added it and people who have heard it say it's pretty cool.

Super kind of you to say what you did.   

For the last 20 years I've been a computer graphics designer and own a sign company.  However, my wife and I bought 2 rental houses early on in life and now those help with the income, but we're far from rich.  Still work to pay the bills and enjoy doing things like this in my spare time.
