That's super cool!  I'll be sure to post lots of photos once it's done.

Would love to hear what you think about Atmos.  I wired for it and put the speakers in without ever hearing it before in person.  1st home movie blu ray with Atmos just came out last month and I'm hoping it was worth the extra effort to put it in place.  Have you had a chance to hear Atmos yet?

No, I have not heard Atmos yet, I did mix an iMax film with roof speakers in 2006, iMax has it's own 7.1 format with a top speakers, but it's not exactly the same as Atmos.
I think it's very cool to have top speakers, and I hope Atmos will be everywhere soon. It's a big investment for theaters to get Dolby Atmos though and it's gonna take a long time before we see it everywhere. I'm in Sweden and all theaters here have just converted to digital and that was a big investment. Before digital, Dolby pretty much had the monopoly on movie printmasters, every movie required a Dolby license, our mix rooms required a Dolby license and a Dolby rep. has to be with us during printmastering. Now movies don't need Dolby anymore so I believe Atmos is a way for Dolby to sell licenses and stay in biz. What you are building, Cody, seems to be ten times better than a regular theater, they usually run a pretty simple 5.1 JBL horn system. Remember to really calculate the acoustics on the room construction before you build, this is more important than the speakers, especially if you gonna play sounds at 20 Hz. I got 4 x 18" subs in my room, I can rattle the place like an earthquake with those, and yours are even better.

I had to do a building design to get permits.
Of course you need basic designs for permits, I was just wondering about all the final detail/layouts.

Details like wall colors and trim style has been decided as we go, but specifics like wall locations, building height, roof pitch, stairs, room sizes, minimum stud placement for the shear walls, exact building placement and footings all needed to to be approved by the County in advanced.  However, I can make improvements to the minimum approved building standards wihtout changing the design.  For example, the approved plans called out for 4" 2,500 PSI slab, but I went with 6" commercial grade 4,000 PSI slab with it 12" thick at the bay door and #4 rebar every 16" O.C.  Anther example would be the stud placement was approved for 16" On Center, however I placed them every 12" O.C. on load bearing walls and even double them up.  The inspectors were very impressed.  County permits only require I build to a minimum quality standard and that minimum is spelled out in the approved plans, but I could make improvements to the quality without making design changes.  I hope that make sense?

There were days when I thought to myself that I'm crazy.  How did I ever talk my wife in to letting me do this project?  Many times I worked until midnight or later and still got up to go to work in the morning.  Every weekend, holiday and spare minute over the last 2+ years went in to this shop.  I went over budget and had to sell some things near the end just to get it finished, but today it is officially finished!  Every inspector was impressed and I did not cut one corner during construction.  Lots of friends, my Dad and Brother helped along the way.  However, I could not have done it without my Wife!

Now I can turn my attention and focus to restoring some cars.  Building the lifts next week and moving cars in.   Thanks to everyone on this site for the positive comments over the last few years..  Those comments charged my battery over this long build and they meant a lot to me.

LOL  funny guy!  This is the show room for the done cars and my man cave.  There will also be a game room that is not shown.  The games will be moved in next week before the lifts go in.  I'm just waiting for a friend to help me move the games from the old shop to the new one.

There's 2 shops (they sit 13' from each other).  1 shop for doing the restorations and the other one for the cars when they are done.     :2thumbs:

Sorry I must have missed the part about the two shops....Is the other brand new too, or was it an existing building that you "out-grew" ?

Exactly right.  The other shop was built about 10 years ago and I outgrew it.  It's the shop where I'll do all the dirty work.   :working:
