Would love to hear what you think about Atmos. I wired for it and put the speakers in without ever hearing it before in person. 1st home movie blu ray with Atmos just came out last month and I'm hoping it was worth the extra effort to put it in place. Have you had a chance to hear Atmos yet?
No, I have not heard Atmos yet, I did mix an iMax film with roof speakers in 2006, iMax has it's own 7.1 format with a top speakers, but it's not exactly the same as Atmos.
I think it's very cool to have top speakers, and I hope Atmos will be everywhere soon. It's a big investment for theaters to get Dolby Atmos though and it's gonna take a long time before we see it everywhere. I'm in Sweden and all theaters here have just converted to digital and that was a big investment. Before digital, Dolby pretty much had the monopoly on movie printmasters, every movie required a Dolby license, our mix rooms required a Dolby license and a Dolby rep. has to be with us during printmastering. Now movies don't need Dolby anymore so I believe Atmos is a way for Dolby to sell licenses and stay in biz. What you are building, Cody, seems to be ten times better than a regular theater, they usually run a pretty simple 5.1 JBL horn system. Remember to really calculate the acoustics on the room construction before you build, this is more important than the speakers, especially if you gonna play sounds at 20 Hz. I got 4 x 18" subs in my room, I can rattle the place like an earthquake with those, and yours are even better.
