The 6.1 is here
« on: August 07, 2012 - 02:27:54 AM »
Ok the hemi is here and I have a few questions for you guys right  out the box.

1. The oil pan/dipstick/sump location etc... Do we need a new oil pan? Looks like it may have clearance issues with the k-member.
2. Dash guages, what did you guys do?
3. Power steering pump ok for original steering box?
4. which engine mount bushings did you use?
5. Any issues arise that maybe noteworthy?

 :rebel: enjoy your install

Yes you need a new oil pan Charlie's has a nice one and so does mildon.

Dip stick lokar

Motor mounts TTI

Dash gauges will all work with old style sending units installed into the 6.1 except the alternator gauge should be bypassed and changed to an amp gauge

Lots of other install stuff needed if going Efi....

We are getting the hilborn injection kit with the fast xfi 2.0. Speaking of which do you know the clearance from the top of the engine block to the hood? Id like to know how tall of stacks we can use without modifying the hood.

It probably depends on the hood and the bracing, but it's not a lot.  On my Cuda with the twin scoop hood, I had to bend the tube coming off the top of the throttle body down because it was rubbing on the hood (it's the tube with the green tape on it in this picture).  So that might give you an idea.

Yeah ,  .Its true if you are going with a Alterkation that a Charleys oil pan will work, but you are better off with a Bouchillion finned cast Aluminum oil pan part # 61RA860  ,  There is lots of options on the controller too ,Fast XFI, Mopar AEM ,Megasquirt, but be careful what you read on the internet, and magazines ,I found alot misinformation and opinions (especially about the ECM). I feel lucky in a way that Bouchillion Performance is down the street to ask them any questions in detail. They sell alot gen 3 hemi engine kits . I would call them or Arrington and ask because they would know, they do alot of custom ECM tuning ect. ect.    Save your self the headache . Good luck with your project http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=75207.0

Wow a lot of your work is really well thought out. Its great to see you are a little ahead of me (cheat sheet ;-) ). The suspension upgrades you did are awesome, we won't be going that way, it will remain pretty much stock. I will be calling your recommendations, I need all the engine accessories etc.

I will talk with them about the ecu etc... Right now I'm leaning toward fast xfi 2.

Steering, I never gave it much thought until today really. Can the stock steering linkage, box etc... Be used?

Im putting the final coat of paint on the suspension tomorrow so we are going to start putting things together here soon.

yes if you notch the steering gear mount(if you are running the AC compressor) and use headers.

Which type of Master Cylinder did you go with? Looks like a hydraulic p/s??

Im leaning between an electric Master Cylinder and the Hydraulic, any thoughts?
