Do-It Yourself Yellow zinc dichromate
« on: August 07, 2012 - 04:00:20 PM »
Has anyone tried this from Eastwood:

Or know of another way to paint the wiper motor the correct color?

There are zinc platers all over the place.  Check the yellowpages.  Zinc plating is pretty cheap.  They usually have a minimum charge so gather all your nuts and bolts that need plating and get them done all at once.  Muruatic acid will remove all the old plating/rust very quickly and the fasteners will be ready for plating.

The other problem is that at one point in time the motor got sand blasted, so I am not so shure that the translucent look of yellow zinc is going to work real well any more. Does anyone sell just the outer motor housing ready to go?

You might want to give fellow member Kim a shout.

Without seeing the housing I can't answer for sure.  You should be able to sand it to a smooth finish.  Plating won't hide any pitting.  The metal has to be smooth.  I'd have yours replated or contact Kim about a different  part.  I would not paint it.  It won't look right. :2cents:

I am going to check it out tonight and make sure the motor is even good before I go any further with this.

Anyone know if Kim will sell just the plated motor housing alone? I will contact and ask after I found out the condition of the motor, just thought someone might know if she does.

After more looking at the wiper motor decided to just get a new one from Kim. Probably would have spent around $125 or so to redo the one I have myself.
