New vinyl top

Thinking about putting a vinyl top on my 72 barracuda. Didn't have one originally, so can anyone
tell me what all I need. I don't know if I need more than the
trim around the rear quarters or not. And is the trim cuda or chally specific?

You need the vynil top trim   VERY hard to find, I dont believe anyone makes a repop  I got mine form tonys parts.  Do search for him.   What I got was used, OEM, and it was in FANTASTIC shape.  I belive I paid about $225 for the 3 required peices

You will also need the trim clips. about 16(?) or so:  Lotsa folks sell them but be sure they are the CORRECT size for the trim your are using.  Clips are inexpensive

Is your car painted? It would be a nightmare to put a vinyl top on a nicely painted car.You need to remove the rear interior panels drill holes for the trim pieces.Just doing mine on a car that was in  primer was  a pain.When you drill the holes make sure where you are drilling from that the holes will go all the way thru.Some of the area is double walled.Drill small pilot holes first. There are just 2 pieces of trim.The bottom of  trim should mate to the bottom of the drip rail trim.about an 1/8 inch gap between drip rail and vinyl top trim.I think the vinyl top adds style to  a car,just imo.The trim should run parallel to to the body line on the sides.

That's funny you want to go with a vinyl top, and yes it will look good. But over the winter I took off the vinyl to fix some lite rust issues around the back glass. I repaired everything and it was not nearly as bad as i thought so I figured I'd just paint the top and leave the vinyl off.

Well this car was painted back in 1982 with single stage and did not have a clue what color it was. I took off my trunk lid and had it scanned for the color twice and tried DuPont & PPG. Could not get the color too match, so guess what I got a vinyl cover from Legendary and had it installed back on.

A lot of people like my Cuda with the vinyl top on. That said the E-Body's look great both ways...

Well the car is still on the rotisserie, blocked and ready for the sealer coat and color when
wifey says " ya know, those cuda's at Carlisle looked awesome with a vinyl top and rear
window louvers. So today at the Nats if found the 4 piece trim set. Still don't know if we're
gonna do vinyl but it's good to have the trim just in case.
