Where do you mount your aftermarket coils on a E-Body?

Where do you mount your after market ignition coil on a E-body, Big Block? Any Pictures? I have a larger Jacobs Ultra Coil to mount, any suggestions?

Factory mounted the coil up front sitting in front of the Carter carb angled with a loop bracket. like mine here.


440 6 pak had it mounted in the valley on top of the passenger valve cover intake area and had a seperate bracket. I have one of those brackets out in the garage somewhere. like in the link below.

Others have mounted them on the firewall behind next to the horns.

Like the sixpak you will need a longer coil wire for the distributor.

I have a similar MSD coil.  I made an aluminum plate and attached the coil to it using the rubber vibration isolators supplied with the coil.  The plate bolts to the valley pan hold down bolts.  You can just see the coil behind the upper radiator hose in the attached pic.

When I used an accell super coil, I had it mounted in the space between the horns and the A/C drier on the side of the engine compartment. This is for a big block and 70 Challenger where the horns are on the passenger side front, by the washer bottle.

Btw, how come no one uses the heater control valve anymore? Guess they dont care if it flows thru the heater core all the time

Only A/C cars used heater control valves.

I use mine all of the time. When I go to cruises, it is sometimes cold when driving home at night. Nice to have a working heater.

Might the core get plugged up if the coolant doesn't flow through on a reasonably regular basis?

Not really, the only thing you have to worry about with the core is rusting out.

I mounted my coil on the right side inner fender about in line with the front of the engine. Keeps it away from the heat. Never could understand why the coil was placed onn the hot engine as wire increases in resistance when it gets hotter therefore lower voltage on the plugs.

I plan on mounting my 6AL on the firewall and the HVC coil just behind the horns.

Definitely don't want to raise IR because of heat and dang my coil was friggin expensive!!!
