Well made some progress today. I pulled out the entire wiring harness. I attempted to just pull the dash pad, but ended up pulling the entire dash. It actually wasn't too bad that I did that because the insulation needed re done and the dash frame needs wire wheeled and painted. I also need to do the firewall inside. I removed the wiper motor and the brake booster and mounted my original R/T hood. I am gonna have to pull it off when I paint, but I just couldn't take it not looking sexy, anymore. Plus I figured it would be safer on my car than leaning in a corner of my shop.

I'm thinking about selling my factory wiring harness and my rally gauges, simply because I am gonna run aftermarket stuff so no sense in cutting up factory harness stuff.

Popped the dent in my door that I got. Restored the body line back as good as I can(behind the crash bar so it was really sucky), but am still gonna have to use a bit of filler. Sandblasted the entire door and found 5 pin holes in weird spots, that was covered with bondo. Just gonna tack those and grind the weld down. Door sure does look sexy even sandblasted down to one color. Gonna blast my car and prime it in the next week or two.  I'm happy with my first time blasting. The blaster is one of the 100lb, weak ones and it is a lot better than sanding, but still not even close enough to warping the metal, since it is such a low pressured deal.

Did your dash core have any words or names written on it?

There is a thread here about factory marks and if you have factory marks, please take a picture and put it on that thread.

I think the most common person from the factories is the guy ROCK.
He writes his name all over cars.

Got any pics of your progress?

Oh wow, I am not sure. I know on my door it had some type of marking on the inner side where the crank and such are. I just figured it was shorthand for something, but it looks a lot like Rock. I will have to take a pic if I didn't sandblast it off. If I find any markings in the future I will be sure and post them up.

Well yall I found on my door it says 671 not, Rock.

I just got back from picking up what was supposed to be most of the rest of my Challenger stuff. I did get the Rally cluster and bezel (the major thing I wanted). I also got what appears to be the front and rear bumpers.  I got the originally tranny (but case only, internals are gone). We got onto the seats and I was pretty disappointed. I got one of the original Challenger bucket seat halfs, the top half (as identified by the rear hard plastic). I also got 2 other seats that are soft back and are dodge or plymouth something, certainly not challenger. Although they were bolted in the car according to the PO.  I also got the rear seat which does appear to be  original.

So really just sad at the seat situation, its gonna be a lot more money I've got to spend.

I also need the front grille, rear tails, and surround, front lower valance and all of the signal lenses. I already bought a door and hood (Although I knew that I had to purchase this).

If I have to buy much else I am gonna deduct it from what I owe the previous owner. Its starting to get sketchy on what he said was included.

In the beginning I was told everything was there and original except drivers door and hood, motor and tranny.

Mine had the numbers in a chalk close to the body color burnt orange. Probably no significance.

Interesting that sounds about right then. The number on the door is is fairly close to the green color code that the door came with.

Interesting those are the seats that I've got here... I couldn't see a side view though. The one that I know for sure is a chally seat has the hard plastic back. Did these seats come in a non hard and hard back version?

I guess the positive is that with the tranny being just the case it illustrates to me that going with the LTI  or LS1 swap like I want to, is probably the best plan.

You're going to put a Chevy engine in the Challenger?  :clueless:

As far as I have seen, I think all seats had the hard plastic backs...  :dunno:

Later year E body seats dropped the hard back.  I think the change was made in 72.  I know the 73 and 74 do not have the hard plastic covers.  I believe you can swap them from year to year.

Yep. I want efi and 94-98 Camaros are really cheap, whiile 98-02 (ls1) camaros are pretty pricey. Either one I am gonna pick. I wasn't given anything under the hood. I need radiator, all the accessories, mounts, etc. I figure I will buy a 94-98 camaro and swap everything I can into my car. Since I have no motor, or tranny now it will be about the same cost or even cheaper as buying a carbed motor, and a 727 and rebuilding both. Car will be a daily driver, and I'm not good enough with carbs. Plus I figure 20mpg and 350-400 hp is reasonable with the lt1.

As a result I am contemplating heavy on selling my rally cluster and just going with an aftermarket gauge panel.  No since in keeping such a good item for a not even close to factory car.

I do appreciate the information on the seats though. I guess they may be OEM chally then. I was just real upset at first since I was told he had the original seats. If they are non correct year chally I can work with that.
