hood pin install using screws

Has anyone installed their hood pins using screws and nuts instead of rivits? If so, what size screw and where can I get some.

I did mine with screws, although I don't know the size.  I can check them out this weekend and let you know.

My kit came with screws for the hood plate. I have no idea what size though?

1/2" should be lots if it's a sheet metal screw. You don't want the end digging a groove in your melon when you're under the hood.

I'm guessing a machine screw would work with a nut.

Just the screws.  But if I had a fiber glass hood I would use screw and nuts.  Even in sheet metal the is not much "meat" for the screws to bite into.

The hood was painted black and looks ok, but I want to paint it the correct organisol sometime down the road, so I want to be able to take the hoodpins back off if I need to. I'm guessing the rivots will need to be drilled out??

I used a #6 stainless steel sheetmetal screw 3/4" long there is plenty of room under that part of the hood it wont poke through. Pre- drill it with a 1/8 bit and screw them in by hand so it doesn`t strip out. I myself never liked the pop rivit look and prefer the screws, originality for me is not a concern.

Correct all you need to do to remove the rivots is drill the center out. It's not much harder, I say spend the extra 30 minutes getting the tools, it looks better. Sheet metal screw on your hood in my opinion just looks tacky

Yes rivits were what Ma Mopar put on originally back in the day. I always thought the rivits looked sort of cheap like somebody did it in their driveway on the weekend. I prefer the look of a phillips head screw better even though it is not correct.

I did do it in the driveway on the weekend. haha in fact everything I do on my car is in the driveway on the weekend.  For comparison if you're still deciding

The stupid things have been scratched up from me having to force the pins in! Did I install it wrong? Instead of the square look of the rivots while looking head on like the picture above mine is oreiented differently, I must've had a few drinks that day
