street Dominator Intake and shaker hood
« on: August 19, 2012 - 05:38:49 PM »
I am interested in adding an after market shaker assembly to my Cuda.

I have a 440 with 750 Holley and street dominator intake.   Will this be too high for the shaker and is there a measurement I can use to check what my clearance would be.

Appreciate it.

I have been told and also read up on the combo you are asking about.  Seems it does work with no bad issues.  It is also a good intake choice :2thumbs:

I went through a similar search finding manifolds that would work with my 70 Roadrunner's Airgrabber hood.  To fit correctly, it couldn't be any taller than the stock dual plane intake.  You can measure the manifold height at the front and back to get the actual measurements and compare them to a stock 440 4 bbl intake to be 100% sure, but like MoparAl I'd bet you have one of the few manifolds that actually should work with no problem.  The Street Dominators are pretty flat for a single plane that still makes great HP numbers.  I don't have the AB numbers for a stock 4 bbl intake so you would need to get that from someone if you don't have one to compare the Holley intake to.  Here's a diagram of the measurement process I'm talking about:

A= 4" B= 5" measured to the top of the valley gasket hold down bar.

I'll find a stock manifold and measure it out to be sure.

Thanks for the help.

Not trying to make your life more difficult, but on the 4 bbl airgrabber cars the 383 & 440 air cleaner bases are like .75 - 1.0" different heights (don't remember exact difference).  If I recall correctly, the 383 sits slightly lower than the 440 so to fit the hood opening the same way the 440 does the aircleaner base is slightly taller.  I don't know if this is also true for shaker bases, but just something to be aware of.  Maybe somebody more knowledgable about shaker setups can chime in.

I had thought that had been the problem as well.  Someone else had mentioned that they ordered a 440 base and received what they believed was a 383 one which seemed to be taller.

If someone has a 440 base and would not mind providing a measurement from the base to the end of the cone (carb side) it would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Brad,

Thanks for the pictures and measurements.  I have a 383 base.  I wish I knew these small tricks before I bought it.

Now I need to look at doing either a swap for mine or to cut the base back a bit.

Another project.
