I heard back from my shop today and they charged me $275 for the work I described above. That's not too bad. I am starting to think I should have had the springs replaced but these will have to do for now. This is a mild street engine so I don't plan on going all out on the cam.

Don bought some cnc'd stealth heads for his 493 I built for him. They are making good power for a low cost street engine.  You can squeeze  700 hp out of them with a good combo
Were they the 'super stealths'? I see they only come bare.

If it were me, I would seriously consider replacing the springs when you decide on a cam.  Spring technology has come a long ways (as far as reduced fatigue is concerned) and it would be a bad day when a failed spring scraps your engine.  Look into a Lunati or custom cam for your combo.

Cam Motion does a super job on custom grinding cams. I have a Cam Motion cam in my big block.  :2thumbs:

But these springs are new. I understand that often the cam dictates which springs are needed but are the stock 440 source springs no good at all? Just placeholders to be tossed away when somebody selects their cam?

I am looking at a Lunati cam as they come pretty recommended on this site.

The 440source page states the springs are rated up to maximum .510" lift.

So if you have a crazy cam then you need to swap them out.

As CP can attest to, .510" lift should NOT be considered "crazy" lift.

Crazy is a relative term but if you want to compare it to a stock mopar cam then it definately falls below that.

Looking at the website it shows that the maximum lift is .600 for the springs. The .510 limitation is for the 7 degree locks that are included. I upgraded to the 10 degree locks which are good up through .600. At least that is my understanding based on their website and various posts I have read.
